All Links Lead to Homepage!!!!

  • Unknown's avatar

Every time I create a new page, when I click on the link to go to the page (as a user), it brings me back to the homepage!!!

None of my internal links work, because they all bring me back to the homepage!!! ARGH

I have emailed support, but all they have done so far is tell me how to create a button. I already did that – the problem is that the links to other pages on my site DO NOT WORK. They all lead back to the frickin’ homepage.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hey there, it seems you’ve somehow edited the page template itself.

If you’re willing, can you reset the changes here?
    https://mothertreelearning.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?page=gutenberg-edit-site&postType=wp_template

Tap the three dots and choose to reset that page, then the site should work as expected.

If you need to re-add some changes, just remember when you click “Edit Site” you’re really editing the template for the site. Each page will still need to display its own content, so don’t remove that section.

If you need more information on Full Site Editing, there’s a great guide here:

Full Site Editing is a whole new world with frequent updates, so if you’re interested, I’d recommend joining one of our webinars, too:

Hi, Supernovia. Thank you so much for replying! Yes, the templates (and everything about this) are new to me!

I also heard from Support, and I’m going to cut and paste what she said in case anyone else has the same problem (because I needed the step-by-step, and someone else might too):

It looks like the buttons are opening new pages, but they all look the same. You can see that the URL in the address bar changes when you click the buttons.

The problem is that the Page template has been changed to include all of the buttons that are on the home page, so now any page that uses the Page template will display those buttons instead of the page content.

The solution is to reset the Page template back to the default so that the individual pages can display their individual content.

You can do that in the site editor by following these steps:

1.) Open the site editor by going to Appearance > Editor
2.) Click the site icon in the upper left corner as shown in this screenshot:

3.) Select Templates to view the list of page templates
4.) Click the three dots next to the Page template and then click the Clear customizations option as shown in this screenshot:

Once that is done, you should see the page content for each of your individual pages.

Let us know if you have any questions about the steps and we’ll be happy to help!

    Best
