All my pages are missing!

  • Unknown's avatar

Having been constructing this blog for 9 months without any problems, suddenly today we logged on to find all the pages missing. I have email wordpress support but so far no response from them.

This is work for a public exam so it is vital that we get it back as soon as possible.

Please can anyone help resolve this urgently

    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Troubleshooting – My Pages aren’t appearing > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
They must be public pages – not private.
Public – The page will be visible to everyone.
Protected – The page is protected with a password you set. Only people who have the password can view a protected page.
Private – Pages are only visible to blog Editors and Administrators. Private pages are not visible in Blog Surfer, feeds, or in any search. A page can be private without being password protected.

If you created a custom menu and added your pages to it and your custom menu is not appearing:

Troubleshooting – My menu isn’t appearing
Go to the custom menu page in the dashboard Apearance > Menus and in the “theme location” module at upper left select your custom menu from the pulldown and then click “save”.

No. The pages were public and have been there for months until a few days ago. They are not appearing on the dashboard. The blog has no pages suddenly! All the media is still in the library – 100 or so images, etc. but there are no longer any pages?

Go to pages > all pages and see if they are in the trash (link at the top of the listings). If so, restore them from the trash.

  • Unknown's avatar

No. That’s the first thing I thought of. The trash is empty.

In your Dashboard view, on the upper right corner, under the “[name]” is a tab labeled “Screen Options.” Click it. Here is a list of the screens where the modules can be hidden:
Posts – Post Tags, Categories, Excerpt, Send Trackbacks, Discussion, Comments, Post Slug, Post Author, Post Revisions
Pages – Page Attributes, Recommendations, Featured Image, Discussion, Comments, Slug, Author, Revisions
Select those and return to your Dashboard.</p>
Make sure you select Select Post Revisions and Page Revisions those and return to your Dashboard. Then close the tab.
You can look in the last autosave for Pages »Page Revisions

Is there anyone else that has access to your site (set as an administrator)?

Did you by chance leave your computer running and logged into wordpress unattended while others where around?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m not getting those screen options.

Only options on Pages are : author, stats, comments, date

  • Unknown's avatar

The options timethief mentions are at pages > add page.

First thing to do in case someone guessed your password is to change your password and make it a strong one that people will have a hard time guessing.

I’ll tag this for staff attention. I doubt they can recover the missing pages, but they can tell who deleted them from their logs.

  • Several pages were deleted 9 days ago by the user kathskrebs

Unfortunately, they are now beyond recovery, and if you do not recall deleting these yourself, I recommend changing the password on both your WordPress.com account and your email ASAP.

The only options on at pages > add page are:

Likes and Shares, Page Attributes, Discussion, Slug, Author, Writing Helper

We have thought about sabotage but whoever did it would have to know how to use WordPress and go the trouble to trash them then delete permanently. Seems unlikely.

It would be god to find out what happened even if we can’t get the stuff back.

The pages in question were there last weekend – Saturday or Sunday – when the blog was reviewed for a student’s assessment. T

he pages deleted 9 days ago were genuinely done to prepare for that assessment.

If the last deletion was 9 days ago then something else has happened.

  • The only activity on that blog since the page deletions 9 days ago was the export made 25 minutes ago. There is absolutely nothing else in the blog’s activity log.

OK. Thanks. That’s good to know. It is all very strange and I appreciate there’s not much we can do about it now. Thanks for your help, everyone.

All our other blogs are now safely backed up!

I should say I am Kim Fyson (not kathskrebs) working on my student’s behalf to try to restore her lost work. We’ve been using WordPress in class for some years now (probably 50 or so blogs) and had no problems before.

I’ll let you know if I ever get to the bottom of it. Thanks again, everyone, and good night! It 12.30 in the morning here.

I just did a google search for your URL and did not find any entries at all. Sometimes you can find cached versions that you can copy/paste, but in this case there isn’t anything that comes up in the search.

One of the problems with pages rather than posts.
