All my polls just disappeared; why? what to do?

  • Unknown's avatar

There’s really not much to say in addition to the title up there. My polls have, for no apparent reason, completely vanished. They still appear on my blog, but aren’t functional, and my page listing my polls now says “no polls yet” or something like that, and they are no longer on the polldaddy site either.

Has anyone else had this problem? What could have caused it? I would just recreate the recent polls, but I’m not confident this won’t happen again, and I’ve lost all the votes on them, so it wouldn’t really do much at this point. Is there a way to restore them?

I just noticed the same thing on my blog. In addition, I can’t create a new poll. I get an error message saying “Poll Could Not Be Created.” I also can’t connect directly to polldaddy.com, which facilitates the WordPress polls. So maybe polldaddy is down temporarily?

I created a poll yesterday and put it in a text widget in the sidebar. Today, I see the poll is too wide for the sidebar so I went to edit it for a different, slimmer design. I cn see the thing but the dashboard tells me there are no polls and asks me if i want to create one. Fortunately, I just getting started developing the site so i can start over. I’m hoping if i delete the text widget the non-poll poll will be deleted as well. And after reading the above about the disappearing polls, I’m very concerned about this feature

    Ask Toni & Josh

i have literally just set it up, but the poll was one of my main reasons for doing so…

I see the poll just fine.

Try the Cookie Dance: log out, clear browser cache and cookies, do a full restart.

I have just lost a poll that was running at http://oneminutebookreviews.wordpress.com/2009/02/21/. You still see the poll on the site but when you click on the polls icon, it says, “No polls created yet.” And the results have disappeared.

I have tried what raincoaster said: I have logged out of WordPress, cleared the browser cache and cookies, and done a full restart. This doesn’t work. I restarted again for good measure, and it didn’t help.

I’m having the same issue today. All my past polls have disappeared from behind the scenes, although they’re visible on the blog itself. And I’m unable to create a new poll. I keep getting this error message every time I try:

    User Code Invalid, 542
    Poll could not be created

I’ve already logged out, cleared my cache and cookies, and all that good stuff. Any ideas?

Yep – I can’t create a poll either – just keep getting an error message that says “Error: An error has occurred; Poll not created.”

Now the problem is even worse than it was an hour or two ago at http://oneminutebookreviews.wordpress.com. I get a message telling me that I have to create a PollDaddy account (which, obviously, I already did because I had a poll up and running) to use polls.

I created a poll last night on my blog at http://mntornado.wordpress.com to get opinions about President Obama’s speech to the nation. When I went to check the results this morning, I couldn’t find the poll under the Polls Heading from my WordPress control panel. It was there last night and everything was working just fine. I still see the poll on my users display page and it appears to be working though I can’t tell if it’s taking any more votes. Only 5 are registered in the results displayed which I can only read from the users view, not from the administrators control panel. All I get there is that there are no polls yet and asks if I want to create one. What gives?

Alright, just like the others who have commented on this problem, I went out and tried to create new test poll which I was going to put on a new test page that would be private. The poll appeared to take as I got the message the the poll was created successfully. But when I tried to insert the poll into my new test page, it didn’t appear to be there any more. And I was asked if I wanted to create a new poll.

I noticed that the Poll Creation Window states that you need an account with Polldaddy to create a poll, but then it gave me the option of Automatically Creating a New Account at the same time as I created the new poll or Importing My Old Account. Since I didn’t establish an account from the Polldaddy webpage, I don’t have and email address and password for an account there. I would assume that the email address and password for my wordpress account would apply, but I’m not sure about that. I don’t want to type in my password on a different account with out knowing this, because I could be giving someone access to my wordpress account with out my knowing it. So now I’m wondering, if I was supposed to go to Polldaddy first and set up an separate account there first before creating my account on wordpress. If this is the case, it would be nice to have this spelled out clearly in advance.
NOW MORE THEN EVER, I’M WONDER WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?

One of the reasons for my setting up an account with wordpress, is because I was sold on the simplicity of getting started and the ability to concentrate on my blog writing with out having to figure out how to make the blog work. But I’m finding that I’m spending a lot of time, at least 50 percent of my efforts, just trying to make things work in my blog and having unexpected things happening. If I didn’t know better, I would suspect that someone is messing with my account!

I´m also having problems with my polls. I had created a while back an account at Poll daddy ; I had polls running in some of my posts, but even though the polls are listed in my admin dashboard I can´t view the results from there. Weird.

Sent an e-mail message about poll problem at http://oneminutebookreviews.wordpress.com/ to WordPress Support 19 hours ago (3 p.m. Eastern Time Wednesday). No reply in nearly 24 hours.

Poll problem does not seem to be one that will be resolved on Forums like this one. Suggest that if you have problems, you e-mail Support. Maybe Support will deal with this if enough people write in.

  • Hi Folks,

Sorry for the very slow reply to your concerns about the our plugin. My name is Lenny and I work on the PollDaddy team. I was not aware of this forum thread before now so please excuse me for the silence here.

Basically we updated our API yesterday as part of our migration to some of Automattic servers. Unfortunately this broke the PollDaddy plugin in a way that we did not foresee. We are currently working hard to rectify this issue and hope to have it working normally later today.

In the mean time a few tips, if you click on polls in the WP dashboard and you are presented with the option of entering your PollDaddy details or creating a new account? then please just do what ever you did when you started using the plugin first.

If you have a PollDaddy.com account then enter your PollDaddy log in details and you should be back on track.

If you originally got the plugin to auto create an account for you then just choose this option. Once you do we will hook up your existing PollDaddy polls to your WP dashboard again.

Once again, I am very sorry for the slow reply to all of this and I will keep an eye on this forum in future.
