All sorts of problems with any email correspondence from WordPress

    Ever since Thursday of last week, I’ve stopped receiving 90% of any kind of email correspondence from WordPress. I notified you last week that I was not receiving my subscriptions via email and heard back it was a problem. I went into my settings and a box I never checked was selected. I went back and cleared it and now it is happening again. I only get maybe one or two blog post emails a day and almost 90% of the rest are not coming. It is VERY frustrating as I have been receiving emailed posts daily for 2.5 years.

    I also am not getting email notifications for likes and comments.
    I don’t know what is going on with WP but I’m hoping you will fix it soon. This is the easiest way I manage my blog and read others. Please advise.

    Hi there, I’m sorry for the troubles with email notifications. We’re working to make sure that all of the issues with email notifications get resolved.

    I just checked your account, and you don’t currently have email notifications blocked so you should be getting them. Can you let me know a few examples of blog posts or likes/comments that you didn’t get notifications for? That will help me investigate this for you.

    In addition to the email issues, you mentioned having trouble writing new blog posts:

    Even when I’m writing a post, it freezes up and sometimes erases what I wrote.

    When it freezes up, does that always happen at a certain point while writing a post? Do you get any error messages when it happens? If you can describe step-by-step what you do and see on the screen when this happens to you, that will help us track down any bugs that might be causing the problem.

    Hi there:

    This is what has been happening. Since last week, my emails have stopped coming. I finally figured out to check the My Account screen and noticed that this button that I never touched was selected:
    “Block all emails from blogs you are following on WordPress.com)”. I never touched it. I unchecked it and then started getting emails again. Then a day later I stopped getting them and went back inside and saw it was checked again! When you looked I had probably just fixed it.

    As with comments and likes, again I am only getting emailed some of them. But when I go onto my “view notifications” a ton more were never sent to me. Strange. Maybe it has to do with all these issues.

    I just noticed that my normal traffic on my blog (likes and comments) are down so was wondering if other people who subscribe via email aren’t getting my posts either.

    Seems like a lot of strange email problems. No one has ever been able to solve the problem for 6 months that almost all my posts sent out to my subscribers are sent in duplicate (but this is another thread).

    Anyway, thanks for your help! I love WP and hope these issues get resolved soon. The other ones about freezing up seem to have passed.

  • Hi Nicole – I’ve honestly no idea how that ‘block all emails’ box could become checked without your doing it yourself. Had you clicked through any manage subscription links in the footer of emails from WordPress.com by any chance?

    Please let me know if this happens again.

    Taking a look at your subscriptions, you have a bunch, but have only chosen to receive email notifications of some. Note that emails of new comments, replies to comments, likes, and of posts on blogs you are following are all different things.

    For emails of posts that you are following, please make sure you have elected to receive the updates by email here:
    http://wordpress.com/read/edit/

    For comments and likes on your blog, you have a different email address listed in Settings->General, and that’s where your blog-specific notifications will be sent:
    https://thirdeyemom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php

    Please check that email address to see if the missing comment/like emails are there. You have also subscribed to a lot of blogs with that email address. To see those subscriptions, log out as thirdeyemom and log back in as the user account associated with that email address and then go to this same link:
    http://wordpress.com/read/edit/

    You’ll see different blogs listed. :)

  • Hi Nicole – I asked our developers about the issue with the ‘block all emails’ box becoming checked, and this happened because Yahoo bounced our emails, due to a verification check from them that we implemented. We’ve made an adjustment on our end that should fix this for now. Can you please let me know if you have this problem again? Thanks!
