All subscribers have disappeared

For years I clicked on Users and was able to see the two administrators and more than approximately 150 subscribers listed by email address. Suddenly only the administrators show. No subscribers show. That may explain why I had no hits on my last post and a subscriber yesterday told me she is not getting my posts. How can I retrieve and access my longstanding list of subscribers?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

I can see all of your 163 email subscribers. Can you please go to My Site > People > Email Followers and let me know if you’re able to see your subscribers?

If you’re not able can you please send me a screenshot of what you’re seeing so I can better troubleshoot this? Here’s how to take a screenshot:

Thank you so much for your helpful response! I can see my Followers per your instructions. In the past I found them by clicking on Users. I have a couple more questions: 1. Who are Followers? The Email Followers are people I know and have invited to subscribe. How do people get on my Follower list? Is there any downside to not deleting them? I assume they subscribe to be able to read the content of my blog. 2. For a while recently people with emails from outlook.com were attempting to subscribe to my blog. I believe WordPress prevented them from doing so. If so, thank you. Also, were they prohibited because it was a scam/prospective hacking or what? Thanks again and looking forward to your response.

  • Hi @starguide4growingolder, the actual outlook.com email platform isn’t the problem per se; there are legitimate people who use their service. But we did have a rash of spammy followers, and we’ve taken a few different approaches to trying to fix that. We do try to watch for spammers and block them, so I’m glad that’s making a difference for you!

Re: followers, if your site is public, anyone can read it. If someone wants to read it regularly, they can opt to follow by email, or follow using our reader (which is the second list you see). Deleting them would not prevent them from seeing your site. It would just stop them from being notified of new posts (at least until they sign up as a follower again.)

    Does that help?
