  • Can you set it up for me, and with written instruction for how to work each piece, either here or by email?

    Have you thought about ordering a business plan? It’s not exactly a set-it-up-for-you kind of deal, but I think the setup/onboarding service you do get pretty close to what you would be looking for.

    Supernovia and Liz, I don’t know what the “structure” I described would be called, but it,s purpose is simply to show information that the residents of the neighborhood need or may want to know about the Homeowner Association, along with a an ability for the reader to ask questions or make suggestions. (That latter part probably just a single “portal” (whatever it’s called ?) just a single one, not divided up by subject.
    May I repeat- maybe make clearer- that forma? (As much as I remember it, this is the way we had it set up at GoDaddy before I destroyed it all.) Page 1 – A photo heading across the top, with those few words in or by it. The rest of the page below the heading, (and probably same on one or two more pages, with or without a heading: Spaced subject Headings horizontally across the page. Each with only one or words; Capitalized, in “boxes, or Bold Caps. Each of those headings with text content directly below, in a narrow vertical column. For “short” content, all of it if there’s room; (like INDEX, OFFICER NAMES, PHONE NUMBERS, etc. Those “short” headings first in line. Then the others requiring more space, under the SUBJECT name, just a short abbreviation of text with a button to go to the rest on a later page. On those “Continuation” Pages, by Subject title “Continued” the full text shown as “paragraphs” horizontally across the page.

    My problem is there’s no way I can do this on my own. I need extended step by step help. I will be away from home beginning tomorrow Sat 11/18 through Monday 11/20; and I’ll check back in on the 21st.

  • @allanmerry, I believe the business plan would serve you well, since we would connect with you one on one over screenshare to walk you through the setup.

    Otherwise, please go to https://wordpress.com/page/creeksideinsumner.com and add the first page for your structure. Add your content. Save the page. Then choose to add another (it will be a green link). Do not worry about layout yet. Once you have added each page you need, update us.

    Supervovia, I’ll take your suggestion and try the “business” format.
    But first that post from “Timethief” above. ” http://allanmerry.wordpress.com/ has been deleted.” ?? !! I don’t get that! Is that about my other account, my Blog? I can still open that using the ” our-place-in-the-cosmos ” that I have saved in my PC “Favorites.” Does http://…etc need to be restored? For the sake of either of my Blog OR this new Homeowner Association Website?
    For that new website, it just needs to have subject headings on it for various information about the Association, (some of that static for a year or more, depending on annual election of new Board members), and other subjects that would be revised routinely). And it will need one or possibly two “portals” ( ??) where the homeowners can send back information and questions to the Board of the association. The site is only for use the Board “managing” the association, and the homeowners
    themselves. Of course we get “new” homeowner Members when someone sell their home. And of course we have to keep the “Membership” current with those changes. If it looks like the Business format will work for those needs, and you can “walk me through step by step, then I’m In. Because I took up Liz’s time for sooooo long, giving her a break from the new site seems due. I’m hoping she will continue working with me on remaining needs with my Blog, and I will next write to her on bended knee for that. First of many Thank You’s! Allan

    Liz, Allan yet again. Please consider what I wrote above to Supernovia. Does this all sound reasonable? And you stay with me with the Blog? I have got to be “Client from Hell.” (As my retired nurse spouse used to say, about say about of one of the Nursing Directors she used to supervise.)
    You have been so good to me for so long, you deserve a break at least half of what I’m trying to do. ? :-)

  • Hi @allanmerry, sorry I was away Wednesday and Thursday. Another nice feature of the business plan is priority chat.

    All of what you said is entirely possible. I recommend these steps:

    – Write everything you want to put on each page.

    – Find photos: you can use ones you have or download from sites like unsplash.com or pixabay.com

    – Get the business plan and ask for an onboarding, where a happiness engineer will work with you over screenshare to help you get started

    Supernovia, Mam, Regarding gender, I just rely on the fact the women are smarter than we Guys. Holds true in my experience.)

    The current “domain” for the homeowner Association (I’ll abbreviate in “HOA”) is registered with WordPress, and I open it with
    creeksideinsumner.com How would I switch it to the business plan, in order to request an “onboarding”?
    But $ cost first. Have to know what I’m committing the HOA to. The present “personal” plan costs some monthly $ amount; (I don’t remember exactly). How much will the Business plan cost?
    And, when I start it, I will need to set it up mostly with “Placeholders” to begin with. Some of the “Subject Headings” set in places, with the text and data added in later as write it and complete it. Is that going to work? With the $ cost known for our budget, I’m read to go. Thanks !!

    But the extra guidance may well be worth it to you and your HOA. We are also happy to help here or by chat with your personal plan.

    I personally recommend against ‘placeholders’ as much as possible. If you can add each page you have prepared, we can help you put a site together with that.

    Think of it this way: no one likes to encounter a finished-looking website, click a link for something they need, and get a “coming soon” or “under construction” notice. So let’s just gather what you have. That said, if you really really want placeholders, you can do that too. You can write these up as documents or add them as pages:

    Supernovia, I’ll limit to one issue per send to you. :-) I don’t remember the other issue either. But, l have to choose the cheaper form – the Personal. Unfortunately. When I first took the “job” the site was on GoDaddy and was way overdue payment. So I paid $800 to bring it current. Then I was advised to move it WP, and GoDaddy refused to refund. I get your advice about avoiding the “placeholders” but I’ve got to do that too. (By place holders, I mean putting several Subject titles onto the 1st two pages, at the first set-up.) It was “off line” so long it’s not much missed, and it needs much more added anyway. The Board members know it will take time. So staying with “personal”I guess I’m ready to Chat.     I did that- 1 page with notes at the bottom- and saved it, but when when I bring up creeksideinsumner.com the page that comes up is the one from when I tried myself. I’ll be here around 10am tomorrow. Allan

    My notes on what you have so far:

    1) Instead of writing the names of the pages, create separate pages for each of the things you mentioned:

    CREEKSIDE AND SUMNER
    OUR LEGAL CHARTER
    MEMBERSHIP
    OFFICERS
    MEETING SCHEDULE
    NEIGHBORHOOD ACTIVITIES
    CONTACT US (You already have this page)

    2) Be bold and publish those pages. Do not just save as draft. If you only save a draft, you won’t be able to use one as a home page.

    Supernovia, How to get rid of the Page 1 that I apparently did publish earlier. Will a New page made now take it’s place when I publish the new one?

    If I have a separate page for every Subject heading , it will be a LOT of pages. Couldn’t I put at least to, or more, on each page if their texts all fit within one page? I’d at least want on the first page: the Page Contents (i.e. “table of contents”), and the US mail address and email addresses on page 1 under the Heading. Plus the CREEKSIDE AND SUMNER introduction, which should also fit on it. And with the other main Subjects, at least two- probably three- would fit on each following page?

    I’ll go ahead and compose and Publish a page 1 on the “model.”

    Supernovia, I Tried again. What I wrote went onto the “old” page. Can we remove everything and start over? The domain name: creeksideinsumner.com ??

    And which “plan” is it in? the free or the next “higher” one?

  • Don’t worry about removing everything and starting over, thanks! I will help you through as well as I can if you’ll follow the recommendations I give.

    There is an easy way to make “headings” that go to sections on a single page and I was trying to step you through that.

    For now, to assuage current concerns, go to My Site > Customize > Homepage Settings. Select the page you published as the front page.
