Allow Feature Images to be hosted Elsewhere

I like WordPress.com, I don’t like it’s size limit for images/videos. What I would like is to enable feature images to be used via link (like you do with the Add Media button, so I can host it elsewhere.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Okay, but why would it be hard to implement? I mean it’s one thing to take image source code and embed within the page. Is there some sort of special way the features image does access?

Hi kirielson – as timethief mentioned, it’s not possible to add featured images that are not in a site’s media library. That isn’t a feature of WordPress Core, either, so it’s not even something you could do on a self-hosted site. If you do want to explore the self-hosted route, you may be able to find a plugin that allows that functionality, but you’d need to research it. You could pursue that over at WordPress.org if you like. More info:
