Allow revisions in Beep Beep Boop

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have 50 or so editors on my blog and they sometimes make a complete hash of editing posts. (Note -I mean editing an old post). Revisions are vital to me in being able to undo mistakes. I guess other people have other reasons for finding revisions so vital.

    Can anyone from WP explain why this extremely useful feature is not being continued in BBB. Is it too difficult?

    Can I also respectfully ask that no-one posts off-topic here by telling me how to use the Clasic Editor. I know how to (but many of my Editors do not)

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @knashermac2009,

    As explained in the long thread, we’ve decided not to add post revisions to the new editor.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @jeremeylduvall .. As a serious blogger/writer … the post revision feature is one of the most important. For anyone writing something a little more weighty than a tweet, this is a terrible loss. I hope Word Press will reconsider restoring this absolutely essential feature.

    @jeremeylduvall – I understand that it was stated in the previous thread that post revisions were not part of the design of the new editor. But I haven’t yet seen a good explanation as to *why* this decision was made.

    There might be a very compelling reason – such as potential legal action involving a post – that a blogger might want to, or need to, revise their post. For that reason alone it seems very shortsighted to not include the ability to revise posts in the new editor.

    Its a bit like expecting your programmers to work without the benefit of souce code revision control. Oh hang on…… you probably dont.

    I am thinking that your editors do not have to create posts on the blog. The could use an offline blog editor and that would mean they will have backups on their own computers. https://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/

    @timethief
    Its not the creation of posts that is the problem (unless of course we are talking about lost drafts) – its the subsequent modifications (which for some will inevitably be done via BBB). These may take place over a long period of time and the ability to revert to a previous date version is sometimes invaluable.

    It is unfortunate the editors do not choose to use the classic editor because if they do this is not an issue at all. We can lead them to water …

  • Unknown's avatar

    @timethief … But unless we drag them to the river and hold their heads underwater, they’re not going to drink.

    @timethief
    Being allowed to “choose” is all that we have been banging on for all this time.

    @nikkitytom
    As far as I can tell this is not your issue. It is jknashermac2009 who appears to have 50 editors and who I addressed in my comments. Your comment does address the issue and appears to be spam.

    @knashermac … I’ve banged my head on this wall for so long, I look like a porcupine after electrolysis. I’d be content at this point with a clear statement that access to the Classic ( even if we have to swing from trees) will be accessible in the future.

    All we need is one sentence. ” We do not plan to restore the link to the Classic editor. However access through the dashboard will still be available. Not “for now” … or “at this time” ….

    Just as firm a statement as the one insisting that the link WILL be removed. That’s all … I think at this point, most of us will accept the clicking and clacking and jiving to get to the Classic. We just don’t want to find it gone one morning when we sign in. And THEN be told that it’s a permanent decision.

    Being allowed to “choose” is all that we have been banging on for all this time.

    We have known since March 18th, 2015 that the classic editor is not being removed and jeremeylduvall has confirmed that it is being retained today in other threads.

    Can I also respectfully ask that no-one posts off-topic here by telling me how to use the Clasic Editor. I know how to (but many of my Editors do not)

    Perhaps you could provide them with instructions for using the classic editor for creating and publishing posts and editing them too.

    The classic editor will continue to stay in place!

    Thats exactly how it will happen.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @Timethief. Thank YOU … that is the first clear statement we’ve had from staff that the Classic will remain.

    Please however note that Jeremeylduvall made that statement less than half an hour ago … and I do not patrol the forums. This was on another thread about bugs in Beep Beep Boop …. which most of us would probably not be visiting.

    However … it is excellent news. And it is a clear and definitive statement which would have averted much of this controversy had it been issued earlier.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @nikkitytom
    You are welcome. I took the same statement made on March 18th, 2015 seriously as well and nothing has changed since then. However, I also have a contingency plan just in case.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @Time thief … quite right. Thatrobyn’s March 15 statement is also clear. At this point I don’t care if I have to swing from that tree, I just don’t want to have to move five blogs and thousands of viewers elsewhere.
