Allowing others to subscribe to my blog

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve been trying for hours to enable a subscription option on my blog, other than the small drop down option in the upper right corner. I’ve been through feedburner several times. Their instructions say to find the “presentation” tap and then “sidebar widgets” — Which I can’t find. But I did go to Appearance & added the text widget. I understand from feedburner that I am supposed to copy & paste a code into the text box — however, I cannot find a textbox on my blog or dashboard, although I have added two at this point. I’m not a stupid person, but this is my first blog. I just want my readers to be able to do a simple click and subscribe. Help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The site linked to your name is not a WP.com blog, and we won’t be able to help with that, sorry.

But I have a wordpress blog.

In appearances > widgets, click on the “edit” link on the test widget. It will open and then you can put in the code from feedburner. Then click “done” to close the text widget and then click “save changes” at the bottom of the list.

thanks — I think I’ve tried this already but I am going back to try again. Thanks again.

I’m still doing something wrong. It seems so simple – I don’t know where I’m screwing up. But I’ve burned 3 feeds now at feedburner — is that OK? (Keep in mind that I don’t really know what it means to “burn a feed” but I’m hoping that it is what I’m supposed to do to start out. I did figure out the text widget issue — that was a stupid mistake — I just didn’t give it enough time to open. But when I typed the code in, the only thing that happened was the last 3 letters showed up in the sideboard of my blog. I’m trying again — but words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

OK — I did everything I was supposed to — got the code, copied & pasted it into the text box – hit done – saved changes — then bam, went to my blog and now in my sideboard the words “enter your email address” appear. That’s all — the words don’t toggle or anything. Doyou have any idea what I did wrong? Thanks so much — I’m losing my mind here.

I think you probably got the wrong code. Can you paste it here, between backticks? Backticks are the little marks usually on the same key as the ~ that look like apostrophes. So it’s Backtick, Code, Backtick. That makes it display so we can read all the code.

Did they offer you a different choice of code? Many places offer codes for WordPress and then also codes for WordPress.com, also called HTML codes. That has a form in it, which I believe is always stripped here at WP.com and so it will never work.

No — not this time. I’ve been through this proces so many times though — I know that seems ridiculous. I haven’t always gotten the same response. does it matter that I’ve now burned 4 feeds?

  • Unknown's avatar

Is there a way of accessing my old feeds without burning a new one?

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t think so. But there has to be an adaptation somewhere, perhaps someone more experienced with Feedburner will offer their thoughts.

  • Unknown's avatar

Accessing your old feeds? Well, presumably they’ll be listed on your Feedburner account?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m sorry — this is so alien to me — I’ll try to find that now. Thanks for trying to help.

Are you trying to do an email subscription from feedburner?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hey Raincoaster! I went back through and found another code and it worked! Yay! Thanks for the coaching. You rock!
