Allowing wp.com users to post on wp.org site

  I know this is a little more of a wp.org kinda question but since it relates and effects wp.com lifestyle i thought I would try here.

  I have a wordpress blog on my own server, and I was wondering what the easiest way was to allow wordpress.com bloggers to comment on my blog with their wp.com user name and details(avatar, link to their blog, etc)?

  im sure this gets asked alot but when searching I guess i just didnt know the right terms cause I got nothing.

  You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.

  This support forum is for WordPress.com hosted blogs only. If you have a self-hosted WordPress blog you need to seek help at the WordPress.org forums, not here.

  If you don’t understand the difference, you may find this information helpful.

  i get the difference and stated exactly why i posted here. my question pertains to wp.com users. over at wp.org many people don’t care about the wp.com world. although a question not about a wp.com blog, it stands to reason that wp.com users might know more about this as it pertains to them.

  i know why you need to have an auto responder to help stop the mass wrong forum posting. but it really puts the thread off topic so quickly.

  There is no connection between your self-hosted blog and wordpress.COM. both stand alone.

  If your .COM visitors have a gravatar and you have them enabled on your blog, then if they use the email address associated with the gravatar/wordpress.com account then their gravatar will show up on your blog.

  As far as automatically filling in their blog URL, I think that is a no go as you cannot associated a URL with a gravatar. They will have to enter it manually when they comment. WordPress will set a cookie on their computer though, so up until they clear their cookies, if they return to comment, their information should be filled in automatically for them.

  thanks for the info.

  too bad, i was hoping there was like a plugin where i would just put in my wordpress API key or something and then the wordpress family could come say hi.
