Alphabetically Displaying Sub-Categories etc..

http://effectsource.wordpress.com
Hi there, that is my blog.
Now, I have not changed the page number thing in order to list the categories in any specific order. Hover over Effects Reviews and you will notice that the order goes B.K Butler, Xotic Effects, RAT. As you can see this is not alphabetically lol.
Is there a definitive way to organise my categories alphabetically without having to number all of them? There is going to be a lot of pages and stuff over the next coming months so I do not want to have to change ALL of the numbers to correct the order of the categories.
If I change the number of a page, do the pages all shift up one number?
For example, If Home Page was number 1 and About me was number 2. I then want to add a welcome page, If I pu this as number one will home page automatically become number 2, and about me become number 3?
Sorry if this has been resolved before, I searched for half an hour and could not find any answers that helped my particular situation.
Thankyou.

First off, what you are seeing at the top of the blog in the tabs are pages, not categories.
On the theme you are using, the home tab (the icon at left) will always show at the very left end of the navigation tabs. You cannot move that. If you sort your pages by page ID, they will sort after that icon.
Each time you add a new page, you will have to renumber the pages so that the new page is put in the location you want it to be.

Thanks for your reply mate.
That seems like a really crazy thing to have to do. I will have to re-organise ALL of the sub-pages when I want to add one?
Do you know why it wouldn’t be automatically putting them in alphabetical order like it says so?

You need to read this about the differences between pages and posts: http://support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ .
Putting everything on pages had some major drawbacks that you should be aware of, especially when it comes to search engines and page rank:
1. Pages will show up lower in search engine results because search engines place lower emphasis on pages. Pages are meant for static content.
2. When you publish a post, wordpress automatically “pings” all the major search engines to let them know you have published a new post so that they can index it. When you publish a page, wordpress does not “ping” the search engines. You will have to ping manually at a service such as pingomatic.com.
3. Only posts show up on an RSS feed, pages do not.
4. You can assign categories and tags to posts to help the search engines properly place you in search results. Pages cannot have tags or categories as they sit outside the blog structure.

Subpages as far as I know, should always appear alphabetical. Perhaps it is peculiar to the theme you are using.

Thanks for replying. Strange that wordpress won’t have updated it if they know of these problems?

WordPress typically will not change the basic design of a theme. They will do what is necessary so that it will work properly here, but that is all. In other words, they honor the theme author’s design.

RRrrr, I can’t seem to find any other theme where highlighting a page opens a menu of sub=pages, but this one doesn’t do it alphabetically, typical haha.
I’ll contact wordpress on tuesday.
