Alphabetize a category
-
I have created a blog for Marines that served in the Viet Nam War. I have a category of memorials and I would like to have them in alphabetical order for easy access. I need help. Thanks, Jo
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You could create a page to list the items from the Memorials category in alphabetical order by title of post using a display shortcode.
[display-posts category="Memorials" posts_per_page="-1" order="ASC" orderby="title"]Tweak the code to suit you. You can add an excerpt from your post, etc. There is a limit of 100 total posts however.
Read about the display post options here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/

Thank you Houstonweaver! I did not know where to place your shortcode, but a friend of mine put it on a ‘page’ … I am able to see the names alphabetized if I go to ‘Pages’ but no one else can see it, they still just see the latest post submitted when they look at the memorials in the categories. Any suggestions?

You could put the shortcode wherever such a list might be useful. You could make a menu item for the page your friend created and call it Memorials Index or Memorials List. Your site is private so I don’t know how long the titles are and whether the shortcode might be effective in a sidebar widget with a similar title.
Am I correct that you have a number of blog posts about the memorials and that is what you wanted a list of? Did you picture that list as being a sort of index to the blog posts?
Your site is private, so without seeing it, I might not be understanding what you envision. Tell us how you would like your memorials category
posts to display and we will see what alternatives we can offer. What theme are you using?

I am using the theme: Yoko. I hired a woman to help me create the blog. She chose the theme and set up the blog. She had the WordPress basics, but I doubted that she could alphabetize a category. I like the idea of a ‘memorial index’ in the categories or at the top of the blog and keeping the memorials so that people could see the latest memorial post; yet find a name that they are looking for in the memorial index. I can send you an invitation to see the private blog if you are interested.
Also, I noticed that I had previously entered a name by first name instead of by the last name first. I made the change on the blog, but when I looked at the page for the memorials it kept the name as before (out of order). If you want to wash your hands of me, I totally understand. Thanks! Jo -
I think the changed title should correct itself – I read somewhere that it might take an hour of so after you add a new post for it to show up, so maybe it is true of any change. Since the code makes a “call” each time it runs it should gather new information.
I looked at the Yoko theme. I can see why she chose it.
I will visit your site and request access to see if it gives me any ideas for possible placement of the shortcode or any other suggestions. . Thank you for allowing me access to view it.

Thank you for looking at my blog. If it doesn’t work for you let me know and I will send you an invite from the blog. It is weird that there are two names for the blog. Tidepooltidings should not be showing up. Long story…
-
Ah I got into the tidepool… But don’t see the content with the memorials, so send me an invite.

Ah can you post the URL to the blog in question so I could subscribe to it? Understand if you prefer not.
