alphabetizing authors in Authors Widge

  I’m administering a blog with numerous authors, so I’ve added the Authors widget to give viewers an easy way to search for posts by a specific person. The problem is that the list seems to be generated in the order the authors signed up for their WordPress accounts, which is charming in some ways but not terribly helpful in the long run.

  I don’t see any way within the widget to alphabetize the display. Is there a way to force it to do this, or is there a workaround? (In another topic someone suggested using a text widget to simply list authors, but it didn’t sound like that would do what I want.)

  Ideally I would like to alphabetize the authors list by last name (assuming all the authors have updated their display names appropriately).
