Already have a Domain Name
-
Hi – I’m in the process of maybe signing up for WordPress. Q1 – If I set up domain forwarding from the current registrar, what is the URL – something like ‘UserName.Wordpress.com’ ? Q2 – Can you show me an example of a website that is using the $4 a month hosting, so I can see how many ads are involved ? Thanks for any info.

Hi there!
Let me answer your questions :)
If I set up domain forwarding from the current registrar, what is the URL – something like ‘UserName.Wordpress.com’ ?
That format is only for free domains. If you have a custom domain and you’ll connect it to your site (domain mapping), your WordPress.com site will be using that custom domain, like yourdomain.com.

Sites with paid plans do not display any ads. That is unless you’d like to join the WordAds program:
Let me know if you have any more questions regarding that.

Normally whether or not the domain shows is related to whether I have domain masking set up at the registrar.
Are you saying I don’t have to use domain masking, at the registrar ?

Domain masking is not a proper way to point the domain to WordPress.com. Instead, you need to use one of the following options. Please review.
1. Mapping: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
2. Transfer: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/Both of those require a personal plan upgrade. That plan, features, and other details are listed on https://wordpress.com/pricing/
