[ALT GR] [E] shortcut (ALT GR is the right ALT)
-
I’m trying to type polish letter
ę(‘LATIN SMALL LETTER E WITH OGONEK’) which by default is typed on ‘polish programmers’ keyboard’ by the shortcut [ALT GR] + [E]. However, since recently, it stopped working in WordPress editor. It’s not an issue with a font, because:
– other polish characters can be typed normally: żółć śą źń ŻÓŁĆ ĘŚĄ ŹŃ
– as seen above, [ALT GR] + [SHIFT] +[E] works properly, giving ‘LATIN CAPITAL LETTER E WITH OGONEK’ orĘ
– turning caps-lock ON and pressing [ALT GR] + [SHIFT] +[E] works correctly, givingę
– you can also typeęusing a dead key technique: [~], [E]Unfortunately the techniques in the last two points are painfully uncomfortable and not widely known by users of Polish.
I couldn’t find the [ALT] + [E] shortcut in the documentation of WordPress. I don’t see anything happening when I press the combination.
The combination works properly (inputs the
ę) in all textfields except the WYSIWYG editor, e.g. the title or code editor.Tested on Windows XP Firefox, Windows 8 Firefox, Windows 10 Firefox and Chrome.
Is it possible to turn the shortcut off? What does the shortcut do?

Hi @etherlord87, and thanks @galois for pinging us :)
@etherlord87, are you using wordpress.com/post or the older editor in wp-admin?
-
-
@supernovia The old one, I didn’t even know about the new one; in the latter ‘ę’ works just fine.
So what’s the problem with the old editor? Was there some update recently which added ALT+E shortcut?
-
I confirm:
Right Alt + E combo stopped working recently.
(it’s crucial for typing in Polish).See more about the “Polish programmer keyboard layout” here:

I think it’s worth to note for people not dealing with ALT GR (you would expect a person coding a text editor to do) that
[ALT GR] === [CTRL] + [ALT]
So the problem probably is [CTRL]+[ALT]+[E] shortcut which is also not documented. -
