Alt image tag in Firefox

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve always used IE, up until a few weeks ago when I downloaded Firefox. I’m ashamed to say I’m not sure which version I have…probably 3, as I only downloaded it on June 7th. Anyhow, the text that I add to my widget images using the alt= image tag, do not show up in Firefox, although they do show in IE. Just wondering if there’s a way to slove this? It’s not a major problem but it would be nice to have everything working all the same.
    Hope someone can help,
    Thanks!

Everyone has noticed the same thing. I don’t know that there is a solution at the moment.

I am fairly sure there is – you could try
    <a href="url" title="here goes whatever text">link</a>

..but I have not tried it myself, I should add.

I have the title working in FF, but I’ve only been able to get it to work by putting it specifically after the a and before the href as follows:

    <a title="Text" href="url"><img src="url" alt="text" /> </a>

    Hope that helps

I’ll have a go off that Vivan, thanks…and thanks to everyone who replied. I’ll post back once I’ve tried it out.

Vivian, your tip does indeed work,,thanks! However, now the title has disappeared in IE *eyeroll*! I dunno is it possible to have both..I’ve tried popping the alt tag in twice, but it just seems to be ignored if I put it after the image url (which is what usually works for IE).
    Boblets..I didn’t try your tip yet…

Well, mine was a guess, and Vivian is probably more sensible.
The alt-tag is really there to fill in a reasonable text when images fail, and for people who use non-graphic browsers (blind, etc, that either have enormous letters and contrasts, or have software reading the content).
I think..but I am not sure, that IE is the only browser that makes the alt a rollover text.
There IS a way of doing it, and making it work, I am just not totally sure how, or what wordpress sofware will make of it.

oops when I said ‘alt tag’, I should’ve said ‘image tag’ (the one that appears when you roll over the image. Sorry I’m causing more confusion than anything!
I’ll continue to fiddle around anyway and if I come up with a solution that works for both, I’ll pop it up.
    Thanks again!

What version of IE are you looking at? It works in IE7 for sure. If you are looking at IE6, then you have to know that IE6 breaks a lot of stuff.

    Nope, I have IE7! Hmmm…I’ll try again
