alt text and caption question

I realised recently that the images I associate with my posts are getting messy and difficult to administer and so i thought I would add alternative text, captions and better image descriptions for the betterment of the site.

However I am a little confused.

For example if I edit a page that I have already published and click on the main image, on the right hand side I get a place to add alt text and i can add captions from the toolbar etc.

However if i then go into the media pages where all the pictures seem to be (even though I link them to my google photos page which is another question unto itself) I get the same options but they dont seem to be connected. So if i go to edit the page, enter the text i want in the area on the right that text does not automatically add as alternative text when i go to media and look at the image, even though technically it is the same image being used.

Should I be adding this information in both of those places, or just one, if one then which one?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, as you noted, alt text can be added in two different places. Where you want to add alt text is when you add the image to your post or page. It’s not necessary to add alt text to images in the Media Library.

Here’s a guide to adding alt text to an image
