alt text on blog images no more??

After the last “improvement” at wordpress, it took many many hours — days — to discover a simple way to have alt text on my images, and I then spent some time telling other upset forum users how to do it. Now there’s a new “improvement,” and I’ve found no way at all. To be even slightly up-to-date, I’m sure wordpress has a routine way for us to provide alt text for images. Can anyone tell me what it is??? (Sorry, but this constant “improving” is exhausting and enough to make me seriously consider relocating to some luddite place on earth.)

If you are adding an image using the “Add Media” button on the editor or throught the Media >> Add New section of the Dashboard, there is a field “Alt Text” to enter that information.
If you are working with an image that is already inserted in the post, click on the image in the visual editor and then click the pencil icon that shows. You will see a field in the window that comes up titled “Alternative Text.” Enter the information there.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it. I did already have my alt text typed in both of those places–and it didn’t show up for my image. (I double-checked after your reply.) However, after changing to Visual mode while editing the post, the old workaround finally worked again: I clicked on the link icon, typed my alt text into the “Title” box of the little screen that pops up, updated the post, and now there is alt text for the image. I have to wonder if typing text into the “alt text” boxes works for anyone at all.

Typing in the ALT section works for me and sites I’ve tested. It doesn’t “show” in some browsers but should be there in the Text Editor.
If you are having trouble with the new interface, remember you can switch to the Classic interface to make things easier for you.

Thank you. I use Chrome and don’t know if that’s the problem; typing in all available “alt text” fields still leaves me with no alt text. But using the classic interface I can get alt text via the “link” editing icon. It’s roundabout but at least that continues to work. Thanks again —
