Hi Luke,
Themes you find elsewhere (like the i-excel theme you found) can’t be uploaded to sites hosted on WordPress.com. On WordPress.com, you can select from a variety of themes to change your blog’s appearance. We offer over 300 themes, both free themes and premium themes created by leading theme companies. You can view all of our themes and filter them by specific criteria in our theme showcase.
If you’re looking for themes here at WordPress.com with some similar features and design, I’d recommend checking out Edin, Business Identity, and Purpose.
You can also post suggestions for new themes we might add in the Themes forum.
Themes you find elsewhere can only be uploaded to self-hosted blogs running on WordPress.org software. You can read more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org if you’re curious about that.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

Hi Rachel,
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. Very thorough and useful.
I added the Edin theme you suggested.
When I make a page have the “grid” layout my text is all still linear and my posts are still long,
How do I shorten my posts with the “read more” button? -
Hi Luke,
The grid page layout in the Edin theme only works for static pages (showing static content, not blog posts) like on the Edin demo here:
https://edindemo.wordpress.com/page-templates/grid-page/
But you can still shorten your posts on the blog page using the More Tag. You can add that tag to your posts, and everything above the tag will show up on the blog page. Readers can then click through to read the full post. (Although that won’t turn your blog page into a grid. The Edin blog page is designed to put all your posts in a single column.)
Please let me know if you have any other questions about that. :)
