Alternative Themes for WordPress.com

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!

I recently purchased THESIS only to learn that it cannot be used with wordpress.com
    (only with wordpress.org).

Can anyone recommend any other options, besides the 99 or so themes that are offered through wordpress.com?

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m afraid I didn’t make myself clear: There ARE no other options. You have these 100 themes and that’s it. No external themes whatsoever can be added.

What I was suggesting was, you lay out what you’re looking for in a theme (eg why you chose Thesis) and people here could suggest themes that do what you want.

    Ok, got it. Thanks.
I was hoping to have a theme somewhat like “Inuit Types” but with categories in the columns, instead of just the posts.
For example, on the home page there would 5-6 ‘sections’ (such as wine bar reviews, wine poetry, wine events, etc.) available with the most current piece of each section viewable on the front page.
I was also hoping to have access to advertisements…

    Thanks!

There is no possible way to have paid ads on a WP.com blog outside the VIP program, which costs $600 per month. It is against the terms of service for non-VIP blogs. If that’s a dealbreaker, you’re better off starting with an independently-hosted blog using software from WordPress.ORG instead.

    @kulrich
raincoster is correct if you want a monetized blog then you are in the wrong place. You will need to hire a webhost and run a wordpress.ORG install.

To gain a clear understanding of all the differences between free hosted wordpress.COM blogs on this multi-user blogging platform and wordpress.ORG installs please read this entry > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    Thanks! I’ll check it out.
    More important than advertising
    is finding/creating the right layout.
