Alto Focus theme
-
Hi,
My question is around the Alto Focus theme.
I looked at the theme in its demo view, but when I preview it on my blog, it looks completely different.
What I’d love to do is to have my front page look just like the demo where the posts are different sizes and shapes, sort of artistically scattered across the front page.
I’m curious if this theme offers endless scrolling?My other question is around the posts themselves;
In preview mode, when you click on a post from the front page, the first picture, or the featured image is shown at almost the full width of the page, and every other picture is small and minimal. Is there any way I can make the rest of the pictures in the post the same size?
Thanks in advance!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This site at http://ivegotcake.com/ is wearing this theme https://wordpress.com/theme/carbon
What is the URL of the site you refer to as wearing the Altofocus theme https://wordpress.com/theme/altofocus?

Hi,
Yes so I’m not using the Alto Focus theme yet because I want to make sure I understand it’s capabilities before I do.
So my question is context to me previewing the theme in my dashboard.
Does that make sense? So under this approach, I’m noticing that the previewing it doesn’t reflect the way it is demo’ed.
I was hoping to get a better understanding of how much I would need to manipulate it so that once I activate it, it would look the want I want it to (look like it does in its theme demo).Hope this clarifies things?

Hi @danafashina, since AltoFocus is a free theme, what I would suggest is that you create yourself a test site, perhaps something like https://ivegotcaketest.wordpress.com, set it to private and then you can install AltoFocus on that site and get it figured out. You can even export your content from your existing site and import it into the test site so that you have your actual content to work with.
Since configuration changes will have to be made to get your site to show like the AltoFocus demo site, that is a bit beyond the Preview capabilities at this time.

Ok thank you, I’ll try that.
Can I come back here for a CSS editing help? It’s likely what I’ll need to do to sort this out, bah! -
Absolutely, that is why I’m here, to help you and other users with their CSS questions. :)

I’m also unhappy that the alto focus theme doesn’t do what the demo shows it doing. I liked the idea of the continuously changing collage of things trailing down the home page, with the newer content near the top and older things trailing down, but it appears that that is what it does on the “blog” page. So I tried to see if I could just make the blog page the home page, but it doesn’t appear that I succeeded.

@akabeille, if you go to Settings > Reading in your WP Admin dashboard, and set it to show your latest posts, your main page will show your posts in a grid. AltoFocus does not support Infinite Scroll, but there will be a Older Posts button at the bottom of your main page that your visitors can use to load more posts on the main page.

Yes, I flailed around and figured out how to do that, BUT I still can’t seem to get it to do that lovely tiling thing. Reading around, I thought that something said if you tagged a post as “featured,” it would make its picture larger on the front page, which would at least begin to make that “collage” like thing happen. Well, I tagged two posts featured, and they both DISAPPEARED from the front page. I took the featured tag off of both posts, but only ONE of them now shows on the front page. I can’t get the other one to come back at all. I’m completely lost.

Okay, never mind, now the one that was invisible is visible again. But I would like to be able to make it bigger, if possible. Is there any way to control the sizes of the pictures on the front page? Again, something said that if you tagged the post “featured,” that would make it bigger–but again, when I tried that, it caused the two posts that I did that to, to disappear from the front page completely. So clearly that isn’t how to do it.

Also, I thought I would like to use the “Archives: Testimonials” page a little differently, and I think it would work the way I wanted to use it, but I can’t seem to find any way to get rid of that label of “Archives: Testimonials” on the page itself (I could change the text for the link TO it, but then on the page itself it still says that). Is there any way to make that go away?

akabeille – in your Customizer‘s Featured Content panel, check the box next to “Display tag content in all listings.” Taht should get your featured posts appearing larger and with an orange background hover colour.
Could you please start a new thread for your questions, over in the theme forum? This one is for CSS customization requests, and your questions are unrelated to that of the original poster. We’ll be glad to help you there. Thanks!
