alto focus theme full-width gallery page
-
How do i make the gallery on this page full width. it appears to be a page template setting, rather than a setting in the gallery.
https://sandeanderson.wordpress.com/silks/The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Hi there, by default the Gallery uses the entire width of the content container.
However, it appears that in spite of what it says on the Altofocus theme showcase page https://wordpress.com/theme/altofocus there is no full-width page template option in the Page Attributes module and you can see this in action on the demo site. https://altofocusdemo.wordpress.com/about/
-
I would have thought that its a widget area, but there is no sidebar widget area with this theme. only a footer widget area.
-
Hello again, the “sidebar” area in Altofocus is taken up by metadata on posts and left blank on pages. You can see this on the page you linked to in your first post.
I’m going to tag this for Staff in order to draw their attention to the lack of a full-page template option in Altofocus in spite of it being tagged as such in the Theme Showcase, *or understand how a full-width page can be achieved.*
If you would like to try another theme that does have a full-width template, please let us know what you like especially about the Altofocus theme.

Hi zhidoni and justjennifer,
there is no full-width page template option in the Page Attributes module and you can see this in action on the demo site.
That’s correct, there is no full width Page Attribute on the AltoFocus demo site. I’ll ask our theme developers to check whether this is intentional or whether the option should be there. We can then determine what the correct width should be for your gallery.
I’ll post an update here when I know more.
-
Thanks @gemmacevans – That being the case, perhaps the “full-width template” feature tag should be removed from the theme’s showcase page?
-
Hi again,
Our theme developers have confirmed AltoFocus does not provide the option to select a full width template. It is an intentional behaviour rather than a bug or missing feature.
This means the gallery your Silks page is behaving as expected — it fills the content area and there is whitespace either side.
The “Full Width Template” tag was added to the theme documentation in error, so we will remove it :) Sorry if we caused any confusion there.
-
@justjennifer @gemmacevans I like everything about the theme, except for the white space. Actually, an artist friend of mine picked it out, so i bought her the wordpress hosting and am in the process of making her website. We thought that the full-width design, as it appears on the home page, would be available to other pages.
-
Hello again, The other Archive pages, like category, tag, author, month, year, etc. will appear like the Altofocus homepage display, but those are posts and the behavior is built-in to the software. Example: https://sandeanderson.wordpress.com/2018/
Pages you create, like Silks, About, Contact, will not display that way.
You might consider looking for a portfolio theme instead.
so i bought her the wordpress hosting
Hosting on WordPressdotcom is always free. You only pay for additional features with the upgrade plans. https://wordpress.com/pricing/

Hi zhidoni,
If you aren’t keen on the whitespace in AltoFocus and would prefer to use a different theme, I’d be happy to help you find something suitable. When you say you purchased hosting, I think you are referring to the Personal plan. Is that right?
-
Hi Gemma
Yes, personal plan in order to have a custom domain name and no ads. I like everything but the white space. and thanks for your help and ideas!

one more thing–i think also that the home page layout of images in a mosaic is one of the main attractions. I know that the wp gallery can be set up to do this, so maybe just having a gallery on the home page, in addition to the galleries on the portfolio page, would be the best.
-
@zhidoni That flexible homepage mosaic is exactly why I use Altofocus on my photography site. It’s unique in themes but only works for posts, not pages.
If you are looking for a grid layout, here are the currently available themes:
-
The Blask portfolio has a similar feel to AltoFocus, with images of different heights in a grid:
https://wordpress.com/theme/blask
Each image links through to a single page so it wouldn’t be possible to move between the images like you can in a gallery.
-
Thanks, Gemma
well, it turns out that my friend still likes altofocus, even with the white space! so, we will go with that for now. we should probably close this topic, but i want to be able to refer to it in the future to access your suggestions. thanks again!
