AltoFocus 'Blog Posts' Block Problem
-
Hi,
I’m trying AltoFocus and created a page with only “blog posts’ block assigned to a specific category. But it doesn’t apply ‘type scale’ setting (sizing at all.It looks like as it is applied while editing but when I update and open the page in two different browsers (chrome and firefox on windows) it definitely is not.
I’ve noticed other things while playing with settings, for instance
– unchecking ‘posts’ box in ‘post types’ still displays ‘posts’
– most of the themes I’ve tried do not respond to one or more ‘blog posts’ block settings, such as displaying images or type scale, despite they display the changes in edit mode…The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Please note that the AltoFocus theme (launched in 2016) was created before our block editor exists, so the theme was designed with the classic editor in mind, and may not be able to correctly display content that appears in the editor view.
I’m trying AltoFocus and created a page with only “blog posts’ block assigned to a specific category. But it doesn’t apply ‘type scale’ setting (sizing at all.
Can you point out where you see this happening? You have quite a few pages on our site so I’m not sure which is the best one to look at so we can see this issue in action. Thanks for the additional info!

Thanks for clarifying. I can see when I take a closer look that this theme does not have the correct styles needed to recognize the font scale setting in the blog post block.
I have reported this issue to our theme team so they can investigate, but I am not able to offer a timeline for when it will be addressed.
instead, you may wish to consider switching to one of our newer themes, which will respect the settings in that block: https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/full-site-editing
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

That’s very upsetting. I have picked that theme after a painstaking elimination process according to what I envision.
I guess it’s safe to assume that the reason you recommend themes with ‘full site editing’ feature is that the early rest have the possibility of “block” glitches which I happened to come by a few.
I guess I’ll quickly probe my other finalist before picking altofocus and then migrate to another blogging platform before investing more time and launching.
Thanks for your help.

Hi again,
I guess it’s safe to assume that the reason you recommend themes with ‘full site editing’ feature is that the early rest have the possibility of “block” glitches which I happened to come by a few.
I did suggest those themes specifically because the Full Site Editing feature gives you the ability to tweak (or even completely customize) your theme without the need to use any code. The Site editor would allow you to make adjustments as yu see fit, in a point and click fashion.
And many of our themes do work correctly with the block editor, but it can be the case that some of our classic themes (such as the one you selected) do not have full feature compatibility with blocks.
I guess I’ll quickly probe my other finalist before picking altofocus and then migrate to another blogging platform before investing more time and launching.
Happy to take a look at any of the themes you are interested in considering in, and check on it’s compatibility with the Blog Posts Block.
You can also consider adding the Query Loop block instead, which is a similar block that displays a feed of blog posts: https://en.support.wordpress.com/full-site-editing/theme-blocks/query-loop-block/

I guess I’m more comfortable with the classic themes.
Query loop is a solution, with less options, but it should do.
By the way, might be a minor bug or design fault: when you choose a query loop, the first screen that pops up looks like it would let you pick different patterns among ‘list’ or ‘grid’ views, you can browse through different ‘list’ patterns but it wouldn’t let you pick a grid pattern (or the grid pattern as there is only one) on that screen because ‘choose’ button disappears when you select ‘grid’…. you have to choose a list pattern first, then select grid pattern from the block editor if you want the grid view.
Cheers

…And ‘query loop’ block on ‘books’ page: While it displays the text orange on editing and black on live site, ‘text color’ doesn’t conform to any color selections.

Hi there,
it wouldn’t let you pick a grid pattern
Thanks for reporting this. I’m able to replicate it as well. It looks like it’s an issue with the open source software itself, so I’ve reported it to the team over on WordPress.org to check into.
…And ‘query loop’ block on ‘books’ page: While it displays the text orange on editing and black on live site, ‘text color’ doesn’t conform to any color selections.
This is because Altofocus is an older theme that existed before the block editor was launched. The block editor introduced some new HTML markup to represent the content, and along with that new CSS selectors to add styling, but many older themes don’t support this new code.
So in this case the theme’s own styling is overriding the styles set in the editor, specifically the link colour in this case.
If you want to change the link color for post titles (and all other links on the site), you can do that from Appearance ->Customize ->Colors and backgrounds instead.

Yes, I’m aware of that in a couple of hours I came by 3 different issues with your block editors because you couldn’t make it work with the ‘older’/’classic’ theme…if you read the former messages.
And no, I don’t want to change the link color for post titles and all other links on the site. Have you really recommended me to change all the post title colors when I was letting you know that the ‘query loop’ block editor is not capable of changing its title text colors?
You should let people know that you can and do barge in their “private” blogs without their knowledge.
Not the best product and a fitting support.
