AltoFocus Imaging Help

Hello. Brand new to using the site, have the free version, and do not know CSS or HTML. Using this as a requirement for a college course to display photos.

I am using the AltoFocus theme, and for the most part, have maneuvered my way around. The one issue I’m having is how to display the images in my blog post larger. I troubleshot using the forum and tried suggestions in previous posts (e.g. changing to “large” sizing, scaling images to be larger, etc.)

The changes will show up in the post edit, but when I preview/update/post, it seems to always stay within the confines of a margin or not change the image size in any way. The images don’t even change orientation when I use a different alignment. (Although they do show in the edit. Just not the final post.)

I thought maybe AltoFocus had a maximum image size (for images within the post, not featured) but I’ve seen other blogs achieve larger images. (ex: https://teddymalans.wordpress.com/2018/09/03/ta-assignment-1/)

How can I get the images (and text for that matter) to be larger within the post?

Any help would be appreciated. Ideally, without having to use coding, but willing to learn. Thank you.

  • Hi, you’re right that the images are staying within the confines of the content area on this theme. You might consider using another theme that will let you go full width.

Here’s one that will just let you add a gallery, for example:

Hi there, hope you don’t mind me adding to this discussion.

Altofocus has a large featured image so make sure you add that to your post. But you are correct that the content column is pretty narrow. You can also link the images there to a larger image in the lighbox or gallery.

If you want larger text, you can change that in Design> Customizer> Fonts See here for more details: https://wordpress.com/support/custom-fonts/#changing-fonts-in-the-customizer

Here’s more on working with the Altofocus theme. https://wordpress.com/theme/altofocus

Altofocus is a unique theme here on WordPress.com and it might take a little bit to get it where you want to go, but it’s definitely worth it (IMO, of course).
