AltoFocus theme broken feature?

Hi, when I first set up my blog I ticked the theme option “Automatically use first image in post”. This was successfully showing the images where there was no feature image set on the post which was just what i wanted (and the reason I chose this theme). This no longer seems to work and has broken the look of my front page (you cant see many images because I usually don’t put a specific feature image). Is this a deliberate change or a bug which needs fixing? (ie do i have to go and pick a new theme or update all my many posts with a feature image?)

Hmm. I just helped another user with a similar report. Something might be up with this option.
By any chance, did you remove the original file from your media library?
Please confirm for me which site you’re working on as I see 2 listed at the bottom of the original post. Thanks!

I’ve removed no images, the front page should all be images because each post has one image imported from instagram this has been working for ages but Ive now noticed it doesnt so the page looks like a bunch of text boxes with just the titles. The post I added today has an image because i set it manually to have a feature image so that still works (but I cannot automate that).

Thanks @suzywalker, and these all worked before, correct? We’re troubleshooting this on our side.
Can you confirm whether the image appears properly when you add a new post?

yes, it seems to be working for new posts that don’t have a feature image (I just added a test post) but not all the existing posts for which I’ve got loads :( Thank you for looking into this.

I’m not sure if this will help you diagnose what is happening but this is an example of an old post where the image isnt showing from the homepage but the image still shows within the blog post:
