Am I able to merge my WordPress Account with another account?

    I need to merge my WordPress account. My boyfriend set me up a new account on wordpress.org. I would like to use that account (profile) instead of this one.

    Hi Kandi,

    Are you referring to the contents of your blog or the actual username and user account?

    If it’s the former (the blog contents), you can import move that content following the instructions here:

    If it’s the latter, those accounts cannot be merged. WordPress.com accounts and WordPress.org accounts are actually two distinctly different things. However, if you would like, you can change the email address and username on your account to match the WordPress.org account. Instructions can be found here:

    I can’t change my username to the one of the wordpress.org because “the name is already taken”. On top of that I can’t create a profile (with a picture, etc) for my wordpress.org account. I don’t understand why you do not let users delete their profiles if they no longer want to use the “.com” version of wordpress. Seems like a huge inconvenience to me.

    Hi Kandi,

    WordPress.org accounts and WordPress.com accounts are completely separate. When you create a WordPress.org account, you’re creating a separate log-in for your self-hosted site. This log-in is also used for WordPress.org forums.

    WordPress.com accounts are only for services at WordPress.com including the forums here.

    If you own the username for your WordPress.org blog, that should not prevent you from using the name for WordPress.com. In the same token, using a username on your WordPress.org blog does not guarantee that the same username will be available at WordPress.com. Does that make sense? If you’re having trouble changing your username at WordPress.com, it is likely that another user already owns that username.

    Going forward, you are correct – WordPress.com accounts are permanent. You can find more info about that here:

    But, you can easily delete your WordPress.com site by following the instructions listed below:

    Delete a Website

    If you are trying to unsubscribe from emails sent to you from WordPress.com, go to Email Delivery Settings and click on “Block Emails”:

    After blocking emails, you should then be able to move forward just using your WordPress.org log-in credentials. Please note, those won’t work on WordPress.com forums like this one since those are WordPress.com not .org related.
