Am I importing WordPress correctly?

    trying to download wordpress from name cheap to get plugins on my site
    I downloaded wordpress onto my name cheap account, then came to my wordpress admin and exported a file, then tried to import wordpress and it asked for a xml file, so I chose that and then it asked for my name to be an author and I chose that and now it is telling me it will take 24 hours or so to import wordpress and I want to make sure I did it right.

    Hi there,

    Is it tell you that it will take 24-hours to install the WordPress platform on your self-hosted site, or is the importer telling you it could take 24-hours for your XML file to import?

    If it’s the first situation, you will want to check with your new webhost. I don’t have any access to that server, so can troubleshoot on that end.

    If you’re referring to the import, it’s possible that you received that message in warning, as some folks with very large export files find their upload takes a long time. However, if you didn’t have too much content, it should not take that long at all.

    Are you seeing your content in the WordPress.org dashboard on your self-hosted site (rather than here at WordPress.com)?
