Am I spamming my own blog?
-
Hi. For years I linked to previous posts on my blog, each time I was invited, in the comments section, to allow a “comment” that was aimed at pingbacking below the older post to the new one (as a counterpart to the link on the new post to the older one: ping + pingback). For years I dismissed these comments, thus relinquishing my right to pingbacks. Lately, however, I started to accept these “pingback comments” and then I decided to modify my previous posts so as to first undo the links and then replace them, so “pingback comments” would be sent that I would accept in order to create the pingbacks. Once I started this I could do it a dozen times in a row but then it stopped working: I was undoing links, then replacing them, but no comments were sent any longer, so no pingback could be created. It’s still the same bogged down situation three days later.
Is it because I am now seen as a spammer on my own blog? And will this quarantine end some time so I can keep creating the pingbacks I should have created long ago?
Thank you for your attention.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hm, that definitely shouldn’t be happening.
Do you see them in the spam section? https://en.support.wordpress.com/manage-comments/

Thank you for your attention. I don’t see them in the spam section.
What makes me think I might be perceived as a spammer is that among the various comment sections there are (I translate from the French, as it is how I parametered the account) “Mine” and the broader “Approved”. In “Approved” I see the pingbacks (all from within my blog, that is, from me), whereas in “Mine” they are not to be seen, so I conclude pingbacks are not seen as “my” comments albeit there is no relation to another blog or website.

Post-scriptum. “In ‘Approved’ I see the pingbacks”: I mean I see those that were regularly sent and I approved. Not those that, later on, I tried but was unable to make, which seem to be nowhere.

If you’ve set that the comments must be approved before appearing on the blog it’s perfectly normal that the pingback goes to the moderation queue.
As for those that do not appear anywhere, could you give us a link to a post where this happens?

All right:
This post (please don’t let the topic distract you from the issue) contains one link (4th paragraph, 1st line, after the words ‘as in Case 15’) to a previous post (where that ‘Case 15’ is). The link works all right. However the previous post has no pingback at the bottom, although I tried to edit it.
What I did: I edited the post, first undoing the link, then replacing it, expecting after that a message in my conversation queue asking me to ‘approve’ the pingback. It didn’t happen: I got no message. And there is no pingback, as you can see.
Now if you look at that previous post (Subliminal III), in it turns it links to an older one (II). On III I edited the post and I got a message and the pingback could be put in place (below II).
I had done this editing a dozen times in a row and it had worked (the pingbacks are there). With the post I here link to, it stopped working. It was 4 days ago. I tried several times, again yesterday, to no avail. I tried with another old post, to no avail too.
However, 2 days ago I posted an altogether new post, with a link, and I got a message, so I could have the pingback. So, with new posts it seems the whole thing keeps working; but with older posts I can’t edit them anymore so as to have the pingbacks in place (after having being able to so a dozen times, more like 20 times actually, that is, 20 new pingbacks in a row after editing old posts).
Thank you very much for your attention.

Thank you for the details, I had a look at the post, updated the link and, the same as you, I was not able to trigger the pingback.
I investigated this a bit and, it turns out that we had some other reports about pingback failing and our developers are already looking into it.
Right now we’re not able to pinpoint what causes them fail so, I’m afraid I’m not able to offer you a solution. Most likely, it’s an intermittent issue though. -

Thanks @florentboucharel. Just to clarify too, had you previously been successful with this method of editing the old post, removing the link, then adding it back in again?
If you create a new post with a link, does it ping back?
Also, is it just failing when linking to a particular article?
-
1/ Yes.
2/ Yes. At least it did ping back with the one new post and one link in it I made in the mean time.
3/ It doesn’t seem so. I tried also with one other older post, and it failed too.Thank you.
-
Post-scriptum. As to 3/ I just made a new attempt with other older posts and… it worked! A new pingback has been in place for about one minute now.
So in fact the problem may only be with one or two posts (the one I tried to link to or the one I tried to link from or both)…
Thank you for your attention.

Thank you for the details.
As I wrote before we, unfortunately, don’t know what exactly is causing the pingbacks to fail. From what you describe it seems to be a bit random. Our developers are still investigating this. For now, I’m afraid I can’t offer any solution to this issue :(
