Amalgamating my blogs

  • Unknown's avatar

I have several travel blogs on different sites. Is it possible to move them all onto one site? If so, could someone please walk me through this dummy style? Thx

  • Hi @myanmarcw, sure. I’ve done that myself :)

You’ll want to choose which site to use, then use our export and import tools to move everything to that site.

    Here’s how to export:

    Export Your Website’s Content

    And here’s how to import:

Want to give that a try and let us know if you need help?

One more hot tip: if you want to, before the merge, you can “tag” or categories all of the articles on each site, so you’ll know which ones they came from. That can be handy information later. If you think that would be helpful and need help with bulk-editing those posts, please send a links to the affected sites.

Also, if you want all links to old sites to send folks to the new sites, we have a redirect upgrade for that. It’s $13 per year, per site. You’d use this after you finish exporting and importing.

Does that help? If not, send more details and we’ll go from there.

Thanks! I managed to move them by transferring ownership from one site of mine to the other. Someone posted directions in the forum. (Sorry this got posted twice.)

It worked! I managed to get them all moved but one. My bad, I can’t remember the site address! I may have it on my Mac which, unfortunately, did a crash and burn last week and I haven’t yet got it fixed. I published travel books for each blog so at least I have a record for the missing one. When I began blogging my travels, I was under the impression that my Free storage allowance included the sum of all my blogs so started new sites for each blog. Then I figured out I could keep them all in the same spot and have the free space start again at zero with each new one.

Assuming we ever get to travel again, I am wondering about plans. I used up almost all of my allotted space this past winter so what is free is almost not enough. But I only do this for less than two months then the site never gets any further posts. So…doing an annual plan is not economical. Is there a way to buy additional space to add to the free allowance without doing an annual paid plan?

    Thanks for your help!

  • I’ve made a suggestion regarding how you might be able to recover the other site in https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/moving-sites-2/#post-3495526, but I’m going to go ahead and close that thread as a duplicate so we can keep the conversation in one place.

There is not, no. The only way to get additional storage on a site is to upgrade to one of our paid plans for a full year. And if you stop renewing the plan, you also lose the extra storage space it adds – any files you uploaded over the limit will remain available on the site, but you won’t be able to add anything new.

Thanks for the ideas on the other post. I wrote down my user name when I first set up the blog and the password! But I tried that username (and several other possibilities!) and reset the passwordS but when I got logged in, it just said I don’t have any blogs. No biggie. I converted it to a book and also have a PDF of it and when I get my Mac fixed, I might have a clue there…lol.
