Amature questions. Looking for advice!
-
Hey all,
I’m fairly new to web editing, and I was recomended to WordPress in creating/managing a site.
I’ve got a very simple site running at the moment. I made it for a youth group which I’m a leader at, but the problem is that others don’t know enough about code to update the site and add pictures etc.
WordPress seems to have the features I’m looking for with ease of use combining the HTML elements etc, but I don’t actually want a blog format, as such.
I’m looking for possibly a theme or some suggestions on where I should direct my attention (possibly wordpress isn’t for me?). I am aiming for a left side navigation panel which can link to other pages, general body on most pages with a photo gallery etc. on some pages.
At the moment I actually have this laid out that I created with dreamweaver, but my problem is that I want to be able to let others edit the site, add pictures, update text etc. without needing a knowledge of html/css.
Advice?
Sorry for such a long ambiguous post, any help would be appreciated. I’ve been looking through the themes but I can’t see any which are less blog-oriented.http://247.atweb.org/ this is what I have at the moment. I only spent about 2 hours creating it, I’m looking for something more permenant.

If you already have a web host and a domain name, it might serve you better to install the wordpress software from http://wordpress.org/ . The themes for wordpress are mostly set up for blogging, but there are many more specialize themes out there (such as photoblogs and such).
I would suggest doing a search for “free wordpress themes” and do some looking. There are literally thousands of them out there available for free use on non-commerical blogs.
Everything you want to do can be done with wordpress by using pages and posts and such, and it would certainly make things less complicated for those that do not know how to use – or have – dreamweaver or another such program.

Thanks for your reply.
I think I just need to install it and start working it all out. I’m sure it’ll work out.
