Amazon affiliate advertising questions

  I’m confused about whether Amazon affiliate advertising is permitted on WordPress.com blogs.

  First question: Is Amazon affiliate advertising permitted on WordPress.com blogs?

  The article titled “Affiliate Links” at https://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/ suggests Amazon affiliate advertising may be permitted, while the article “Advertising” at https://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/ MAY suggest otherwise.

  Neither article mentions Amazon affiliate advertising in particular.

  To complicate matters, I found articles in the forum that say absolutely NO advertising of any kind is allowed unless we qualify for AdWords or VIP status.

  Second question: IF Amazon affiliate advertising is allowed on our blogs, are we permitted to use the Amazon-generated ad copy, which Amazon requires for their ads to be monetarily rewarded.

  In case you’re wondering, I ask because I mention various products on my blog that are useful to me as a baker and may also be useful to my readers.

  Yes! You’re welcome to use Amazon affiliate links provided they fit naturally within your content. We’re just trying to avoid having blogs setup with the sole purpose of driving traffic to affiliate links.

  IF Amazon affiliate advertising is allowed on our blogs, are we permitted to use the Amazon-generated ad copy, which Amazon requires for their ads to be monetarily rewarded.

  Just to clarify, you’re welcome to generate links and embed them within your posts. However, display ads (image-related ads that you would put on your sidebar) are not allowed. The only thing that’s allowed are text links that link a reader to a specific product. Does that help to clarify?

  Thank you, Jeremy. It does, yes. I need just a little more information.

  Years ago, when I experimented with affiliate links in Blogger, Amazon gave us a choice of different configurations, including adding a photograph of the product <i>inline</i> directly into our post (not the sidebar), along with the link.

  I understand that this type of link, with product image, is not permitted in the sidebar, but assuming it fits with the content, is it allowed in the post itself?

  Or are we permitted only text links within the post?

  Text links are the only types of affiliate links permitted at WordPress.com, regardless of whether it’s in the sidebar or within the content of the page.
