    Hi there!

In general, we allow affiliate links for reputable merchants such as Amazon.com – with some caveats. In particular, we don’t allow affiliate links on images. Read here for some more specifics:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links

The best way to implement Amazon Affiliates into your WordPress.com site is create the affiliate links to specific products, and link to those products in your posts and pages along with original content. The banners Amazon Affiliates can create are considered advertising and are not allowed on WordPress.com, but the links are fine.

Please let me know if you were planning to implement Amazon Affiliates another way, or at least where you were specifically hitting snags, and I’d be happy to help. :)

    Best,

Thanks for the response. I had already read the policies for Affiliate links that you referenced. Is there somewhere where I can read step by step how to do it? When I try to link it with just text no images it doesn’t work. I have linked Amazon before just to show people where to get ingredients, but it is not working with the affiliate link, and I wondered if it is done differently. I am very new to blogging….

    Howdy!

Here’s a step-by-step for how I used to implement Amazon affiliate links. :)

Create the URL for a specific product, here’s an example:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IL6441G/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00IL6441G&linkCode=as2&tag=alexjgustafso-20

Amazon lets you create the affiliate links with their “Product Link” builder or their Site Stripe tool. I always preferred the Site Stripe. You can read more about creating the URLs here:

    https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/gp/associates/promo/buildlinks.html

They may supply a larger amount of HTML code, but you really only need the URL.

Next, create a page or post on your blog. Highlight the text you’d like to link to the Amazon product page. Then follow the Link steps here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/#creating-links

Paste the Amazon link into the URL field. The title field is optional. You may like to enter the name of the product you’re linking to or something similar.

    Then click “Add Link.”

Once you publish that post or page, anyone clicking through that link will be cookied into your Amazon affiliate system.

Let me know if that step-by-step helps or if you have more questions. :)

    Best,

    -Alex G.

    Hi Alex!
Thank you! I did it! I really appreciate your help. The tip that you really only needed the URL and not the whole HTML Code was tremendously helpful, and also breaking down the steps. You are a rock star!
