Amazon associcates/Google AdSense doesn't work

Hello,
I’d like to use Amazon Associcates on my blog but it just doesn’t work. I already registered and got the link to the products, but as soon as I paste the link in the ‘Widgets’ this URL shows up (instead of the advertisement): ‘http://amzn.to/1qefADf’
Someone told me I should install a plug-in but I don’t know how, since I don’t even have the option ‘Plug-in’ in my Dashboard.
I also tried it with Google AdSense but it’s exactly the same problem.Thanks for your help , Cassy

If you require other advertising, you might be interested in a self-hosted (WordPress.org) installation. There are no restrictions on advertising if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities.
