Amazon non-affiliate links okay?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I understand that amazon affiliate links are not allowed on free-hosted blogs. But is it okay to have a simple link to an amazon page? For example, if I mention a book in a post, can I link to the book’s amazon page?

Will you please post an active link starting with http:// to the blog in question so we can provide an accurate answer/ If you are referring to a free hosted WordPress.com blog please see what Staff (macmanx) has said:

It is okay to casually us Amazon affiliate links throughout your blog, so long as they are not the main feature of your blog. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/what-is-the-specific-policy-on-text-links-to-amazon-when-reviewing-or-citing?replies=4#post-697127

I haven’t started my blog yet. I have been reading up on the wp.com free hosting rules, and was not clear yet on whether non-affiliate links are okay.

I take it from the other post that if occasional text affiliate links are okay, then non-affiliate links are also okay.

Thank you for the quick response.

If you are not clear on what’ s allowed and what’s not allowed then you can contact Staff directly on Monday for clarification specific to your plans for your own site.

I have a question I’ve laid out in detail on the “contact Staff directly” link — but can’t find a “send” or “submit” button! Once I finish writing, how do I actually get it to go to support? I’ve looked all over the page. If it’s there, it isn’t obvious to me. I did resize the text box, but reduced it back to its original size.

I know no one is going to look at it at support until tomorrow at the earliest. But just closing out the page doesn’t make me feel very secure that it’ll actually get to someone to read.

    Thanks —

(my questions are very specific — I wrote a book with several other people. We are published by a legitimate publisher. Our book is now out on Amazon.com. We want to tell the world that they can order our book from Amazon.com, give our ISBN number.

(We are not resellers. We don’t understand this adsense stuff or affiliate arrangements. Yes, we will get some small royalties (especially when split six ways), but have no illusion of making anyone rich. Just want to have an Amazon.com link to our book in a sidebar text widget.

(We posed other scenarios, like linking to bookstores who will sell sell the book, but obviously, Amazon is the prime resource.)

You will find such button on Monday, after you type our your question AND then scroll down to say that you haven’t found your answer.

thanks for the quick response, but I must be dense. I’ve looked at all the questions listed below the text box, scrolled up and down the text box, looked at the links at the bottom of the page, (ON WORDPRESS.COM, ALSO COOL, FROM OUR BLOG) — didn’t hit “read more, since I thought it would take me off the page.

Looked at the thinks listed under TOPCIS in the sidebar, and what is above the text above the place it says “You are logged in as poeticmuseling1 (logout)” and “Please describe the problem you are having.” The closest I come is how I got to the page to start with “Not seeing what you ar looking for? Search here.”

I don’t see anywhere on the page something that says I haven’t found my answer. All the links are to one of the questions I’ve already looked at that don’t answer what I’m asking. (I even tried doing another question start on a different browser page, to see if I’d managed to cover it up accidentally. Nope.)

Can you please tell me more specifically where I find the “Haven’t found your answer” spot?

    thanks, airodyssey.

oh — just re-read this — are you telling me that I need to save my question and try it again on Monday — that the link is not on the page today?

No one can post a question to support on the weekends?

  • Unknown's avatar

That’s what he is saying. This is the message posted at that link:

Support is closed over the weekend. It will reopen on Monday, November 7th.

In Philadelphia or Los Angeles? Some of the team will be at WordCamp Philly and BlogWorld Expo. If you’re there stop by and say hi. :)

In the meantime, please use the search box below to find a solution to any problems. Alternatively, head to the WordPress.com Forums if you’re in a pickle, there are some great volunteers who will be able to sort you out, and we’ll also be checking in there regularly.

When the link is reactivated after you use the searchbox, under the search results, at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.
