  I’m brand new here, and wanted to start off by connecting to a domain I own on GoDaddy. No matter what I try, I keep getting the error message, above. Do I need to first create a site, then try to connect it to an existing domain?

  I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

  In order to connect an existing site, you must first create one.

  You can connect your existing domain with any paid WordPress.com plan.
