An Affiliate or Advertising?

    Can affiliate links be an image in the nav bar? Does this constitute advertising?

    The way I understand it is that an affiliate is a company/product that is relevant to your blog and readers. Something that they would find interesting therefore not considered spam. It is not clear if this can be an image link but it seems to suggest that you can be paid for this. http://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/

    An advertiser or advertising seems to be defined as banner ads connecting to Google Ads or the likes and other types of spam advertising http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/

    Does anyone else find this confusing? Is there anywhere else in the terms and conditions where this is clearly stated.
