An automatic e-mail to member when a new article is published
-
My friend and I have an anonymous wordpress.com blog for our commuication and we don´t have use of the comment function (switched off). We need an automatic e-mail send to the other person when a new article is published. It is so frustrated to open up our site every day (or several times every day) only to find the other person hasn´t publish an article answer yet.
Are there any automatic function for that ? If not. Are there any other smart way to walk around that and create somthing suited our need ? -
If you subscribe to the RSS feed, you’ll be alerted when the updates happen. There’s an email workaround using Feedburner, but I’m not quite sure how it works.

The Feedburner emails go out once a day and only if there’s new content. Every blogger has a different “send time” and it’s not specific, but within a 2- 3 hour window. I’ve been offering this (and sending one to myself to monitor it) for about 4 months and so far it’s been extremely reliable.
Subscribers sign up easily and there is a confirmation click required in the sign-up email they get from Feedburner.

I have found Feedburner emails to be unreliable and I know this for a fact because I am subscribed to update me when my blog has new posts. In the past 2 weeks I’ve lost count how many new posts I’ve made but have actually received only 2 Feedburner email notifications. Having an email notification check box has to be the best and most convenient feature. I’m not going to make any comments about this anymore, it’s a fact that an Email Notification feature is what many people want. I can only hope all WordPress themes get this upgrade!

@shimworld – have you posted about your problems on Feedburner’s support boards? I haven’t had a single glitch. (hoping I’m not jinxing myself.)

Hi ellaella,
Till today it’s not working properly but I’m not going to pursue a fix. Quite simply, I think their idea of email notification doesn’t work for me. People (like myself) who subscribe to being email notified of a blog want to be notified as soon as new comments are added to the subscribed post. Not once a day like Feedburner does it.
Besides, being notified once by Feedburner (when it works) isn’t enough. I want to be notified of every comment that people have written to the blog in the same way that people want to read or be reminded that there are new comments.

If you want to be notified of every comment, just burn your comments feed at feedburner and do email notifications of that. That doesn’t help you if you want instant notification. But I wonder if something couldn’t be done with integrating gmail and Google Reader.

I use gmail and I set up google alert for my blog which updates me for when I update my blog as well as others with keywords the same as mine. hope that helps

There are many people who are very busy with their work and who do not use read blogs as a habit but will read when they are shown a link (when information is pushed to them). While Feedburner pushes information to them, these are not people who will bother to subscribe. They are more likely to click on a Email Alert check out than to go through a Feedburner subscription process.
What I do now is have a Gmail Group Address of the people I manually send email notifications of new posts. Thanks to Gmail I can do bulk mailing but I’d avoid having to do this if there was another more appealing way.

You can use rssfwd dot come also; I did a quick how-to the last time I saw this subject come up in the support forum.
It’s here > Offer Email Updates To Your Readers -

I have given RSSFWD a test drive and correct me if I’m wrong, this works the same as Feedburner in that it requires the user to voluntarily subscribe. I’m looking for one that “pushes” feeds to their email in HTML format. I have many readers who actually emailed me to include them in my email update announcements which at present, I do this via Gmail bulk mail.
