An ‘Invitation’ to follow
-
I’ve never seen an “invitation” from another blogger and as far as I know, this person does not follow me, but supposedly wants me to follow him. Strange… This person was NOT in my stats for today either. Is this supposed WordPress email malware?

Hi macmanx,
I was not aware of being able to invite others to follow……. One thing that struck me as odd was that I’ve never heard of him before……. One would imagine that he has been following me and then wanted me to follow him, but that was not the case.
Thank you for sharing the support link on user-roles.

I do have another question……. I have a link in My Favorites to my blog site……. Today I noticed that it has an odd gravatar that seems to be a cowboy with a beard……. Then, as I looked through other Favorites, I noticed that quite a few blog sites have that same gravatar.
Is that something WordPress can correct? … I also wonder if it might be due to a restore of all my files from a cloud backup when I got a new desktop computer……. I would like some advice on that……. Thank you.

I happened to receive an invitation from the same user. My guess is they’re taking random usernames they’re seeing here in the forums, or in comments on other sites, and sending them invites, which indicates a potential spammer. We’ll keep an eye on this.

Where are you seeing this? I don’t see anything like what you describe on your site or in the dashboard.
Can you please give a link to the page where you’re seeing this, and it might also help if you can take a screen shot and upload it to your media library.

If you’re speaking of the icon that appears in your browser bookmarks, that file is stored in your browser itself, so it’s very possible stuff got confused when you restored your browser profile from a backup. In that case those should update automatically over time as you visit the various sites and your browser re-caches the correct site icons.

Hi Kokkieh,
Thank you for getting back to me… Dummy me replied to the email notice of your reply… One would imagine that I should have learned that such replies are not to be done… Just a bit forgetful…
I sent a couple screen shots in that email and noted that all the weird gravatars are only seen in Internet Explorer… They do not appear in Edge… I also noted that many of those Favorites links are to sites that I do not frequent any more, so I deleted a bunch of them…
Hopefully, the few that are left will self-correct… Again, thank you for your helpfulness — and patience with my seeming lack of reply… Have a great day.
