An update must have changed the way I receive submited orders. Please help.

Hello, I have a website where people can select through several options to build their product and then submit the order. For years the submitted order that I would receive would look like this:

    Guitar Type: Fender Jaguar

    Guitar Color: Sunburst

So now, just within the last few days all the orders that come in now look like this.

    Guitar Type:

    Fender Jaguar

    Guitar Color:

    Sunburst

This makes it very confusing to read my incoming orders. Is there any way to fix this or revert back to what it was a few days ago? I didn’t change or update anything on my end. It just started showing up this way. Please help.

  • Howdy –

Sure thing, we can take a closer look at this with you. As a starting place, are these forms coming from https://spitfiretortoiseshellpickguards.wordpress.com/order/ or a different page on your site?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes you are correct, it is coming from https://spitfiretortoiseshellpickguards.wordpress.com/order/

If there was a way to upload a picture, I can show you whats happening. The title such as “Guitar Type” before the drop down menu shows in my email on the submitted order form, but it was always BOLD and then the item that was selected such as “Fender Jaguar” was shown after the colons : and not bold. This was so user friendly and easy to see what was selected.

Now, everything is stacked upon itself and nothing is bold anymore. Very difficult to read. Like I said, this just started a few days ago according to the latest order that was submitted. I can show you a picture if there is a way to submit one.

  • Hmmm, it looks like it’s using an older “classic” form that hasn’t seen updates for quite a while. I’m not sure why email would suddenly get weird, but are you able to see the selections here?

Yes, I can see the selection and that looks good how it differentiates between the title and then the selected option. But when coming into my email it no longer looks like that. Everything is the same font, all none bold and stacked all in one consecutive order without any categorizing.

It’s this way across Firefox and Chrome. It’s a WordPress issue from my website submitting the form in this new way. Also, there have been no updates from Firefox or Chrome.

The orders are almost impossible to read now.

Thank you so much for helping, let’s please continue to try and search for new ideas. I really really need a fix for this. So strange it just started a few days ago out of the blue and I didn’t change anything on my end.

  • I was checking around and it looks like the lack of formatting in form submission emails has been filed as a report for us to look into; I’ve added your request to it as well.

There isn’t really a workaround at this time for the emails that you receive – it may be worth reviewing them in your Feedback section for easier viewing for the time being, until we’re able to resolve it.

I am not sure what that means, “lack of formatting in form submission emails”. Can you please clarify? Is this similar to my issue?

I checked the date when the problem started and it literally started on December 1st with the first order of this month. So, someone or something must have changed starting December 1st. Maybe this will help you out to locate the potential issue.

Please keep me posted as this is still a major issue for my business and causing quite the complication for our order submission section. Thank you so much.

This information might also help you. From my personal emails when orders come in, I am able to copy and paste the selected ordered items and paste into a spreadsheet. This lays out everything quite nicely.

However now, everything is lined up weird and hard to read from both the email and Feedback section when implementing into the spreadsheet. In the Feedback section, when I copy and paste it from there into the spreadsheet, it also lines up weird and hard to read. I went back into the November orders when things were good, and when I copy and paste from the Feedback section from an order in November, it still lines up weird on my spreadsheet. Humm, so all past months when using the Feedback section to implement my orders into the spreadsheet line up weird. This tells me that something within the Feedback section is now transferring over into the submitted email orders starting December 1st. Does that make sense?

So, before December from my email, everything was great, however, if I used the Feedback section to gather the info into spreadsheet, it would be off and weird like it is currently after December 1st. Hard to explain.

So what I am trying to say is, no matter what, the Feedback section would always show up weird when transferring data to my spreadsheet. However emails would be great showing up in email and transferring into the spreadsheet. Things would be lined up accordingly when gathered from email pasted into the spreadsheet. So now, the emails match the feedback section which is no longer aligned correctly. Something has been connected to cause emails to show up using the same language as the Feedback section whereas before they seemed to be using different language and showed up differently. Does that make sense? Maybe there is something there that is causing the issues.

  • Hey there, this helps:

So now, the emails match the feedback section which is no longer aligned correctly.

We’ll share that with the developers. Did you use the feedback section before now, or are you looking at it for the first time?

I am not sure what that means, “lack of formatting in form submission emails”. Can you please clarify? Is this similar to my issue?

We were able confirm the problem you’re seeing and have filed a report. Thank you!

This is the first time I am seeing the Feedback section. I didn’t even know it was there before you sent me that link to it.

Ahh, thank you for filing the report. I appreciate it.

Any updates. Orders are still coming in all messed up from December 1st.

  • Nothing yet. This is the type of issue that can take some time to resolve. I took a look at your situation though and I think I have something that may work, if you’re willing to give it a shot. You had mentioned issues pasting into a spreadsheet, but what if we get you a CSV that can be opened as a spreadsheet and copied / pasted / modded as needed?

    Start at https://spitfiretortoiseshellpickguards.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=feedback

Select December for the dates, and be sure you’ve selected Order for the contact type. Click filter. Then, click export. Give that a few seconds and a CSV will automatically download. I’ve tried this on your site, and opened it, and it looks like the spreadsheet may be helpful to you while you wait for better email formatting. Let us know.

I see that the problem reported by the OP has been partially resolved in that the form response email now has the bold font for the labels reinstated and a blank line separating the responses reinstated.

However, the user responses are still appearing on a separate line, whereas before they were appended on the same line as the label. Can we expect a fix for this also so that the original function of the form response email is restored?

I’m not aware if this is something that would be changed, but I’ve passed your message along just in case.

I tried the spreadsheet idea. Thank you so much for thinking about this and coming up with ideas, but it was even more messy and almost impossible to read.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hey I just noticed that, that is partially good news. Thank you for bringing that back to my attention. Yes the titles are now bold, and each separate category is now spaced just like you mentioned.

So are you also having this same issue for your email forms?

I looked over my order form and you are right. That is great news and they are getting close. To be honest, I don’t mind it this way. The way it is now is the Title is bold and then under it is the selection not bold. Then there is a blank space and then the next title in bold. This actually is okay for me if they can’t fix it how it was before. I mostly needed the titles bold and a space between categories. Thank you for working on this Staff.
