Analytics Plug In

    Hello,

I have a site that I am about to launch (on Bluehost) …. I want to speak to someone about which plug-in is best for me to use that will help me collate data / analytics regarding my site.

Most importantly – I want to know:

    1) How much Volume is visiting the site?
    2) What pages on the site people visit most?
    3) And MOST importantly of all (given we will be launching our product on multiple platforms) from which social media location are the site visitors coming from? Are they coming (having pressed on a link) from FACEBOOK, or INSTAGRAM etc.

This is the data we wish to collect. Can you recommend a plan / product for this?

    Yours,

    NEIL

  • Hi Neil,

Right now you’re posting in the forums for the hosting provider, WordPress.com. We’re not the same thing as the open source WordPress software you’ll be using over at Bluehost. That’s made by the WordPress community on WordPress.org, and they provide support for that software over at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

That said, all the items you mention are included in the stats module of the Jetpack plugin, and depending on your hosting plan with Bluehost, a paid subscription to Jetpack might already be included, though stats is included in the free version of Jetpack.

In your site dashboard, look for Jetpack in the sidebar menu, click on that, and follow the steps to connect it to your WordPress.com account. If it’s not there, you can install it from the Plugins section. Once you activate and connect Jetpack, it should start recording visits to your site automatically:

    Jetpack

For more in-depth data than Jetpack offers, the most popular option is Google Analytics. There are several plugins to integrate that into your site:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/google+analytics/

However, you can also integrate it by just inserting Google’s tracking code they’ll provide into your theme’s header.php or footer.php file – you can use a plugin to do this dynamically, or you can modify your theme files directly, though I wouldn’t recommend the latter. Here’s a tutorial covering all the options if you want to take a look at that:
