Anchor Link to Specific Table Rows/Cells
-
Hello,
I am trying to create anchor links that go to specific rows/cells on a table. The table is on a different page from the text that people would click on to get to the table row.
I have been able to set-up the links, using the text in the first column of each row for the anchor, which works for what I want to do with it. However, when I visit the first page and click the link I get to the top of the table rather than any specific row for every one of the links whether at the top or bottom of the table. The program seems to ‘think’ that it is taking me to the correct spot but it is not.
I found an old posting at: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/jump-to-specific-row-in-a-table-on-another-page/ that seems to resolve the issue. But, it does so by disabling the pagination. I do not know how to disable pagination, nor even where to start to do so. I searched that topic and some people posted codes to do it for it but never actually say where to insert the code. Others say to look on pages/links that do not seem to exist (or exist anymore).
I am happy with whichever method works. Ultimately, I would just like to have people be able to click on text on page 1 and from there jump to a specific row/cell on my table on page 2.
Thank you.

Hi there!
What’s the address of the site you’re working on?
Please note that these forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only. If your site is using the open-source WordPress.org software, we won’t be able to help you out and you’ll want to seek help at these forums:

Hi there!
It is a wordpress.com site. I have not yet published it publicly because it is not yet ready for people to see (first impressions and all that).
Thank you!

The problem seems to be with the coding in general rather than the site specifically – others seem to have this problem and their urls are, naturally, different than mine. So it seems there ought to be a resolution for it.
Thank you.

I’d recommend putting your jump link right in the target cell.
It’s hard to see why that’s not working though if we can’t see the site. If the site is hosted here on our servers, can you tell us the name of the page or post? Staff can see it still, even if it’s not launched yet, if you’ll let us know where to look.
If it is not hosted here, you would want to head to the correct forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ , though I still think it will be hard for anyone there to see what’s wrong without looking at the page.

Hello,
Thank you for the speedy follow-up.
>I did not know that the staff could still see it if the site is not yet launched.
The url for the starting (linked) text is: https://scienceforvancouver.wordpress.com/science-for-communities/
The url for the table is: https://scienceforvancouver.wordpress.com/our-workshops-and-programs/
>I did put the link in the cell where I wanted it to end up for each of the jumps. I used the text **in** each of these cells for my anchors. The problem is the links go to the top of the table no matter where the anchors are in the table.
>Yes, I do know that there is a difference between .com and .org. I find it interesting, however, that when I click ‘Help’ on my .com pages, it directs to a .org support page (specifically: https://wordpress.org/support/article/wordpress-editor/, which I opened again just now following the .com help link). I am not sure why that is but I have generally found the help there to be helpful so never thought about it. Also, I have no control over where the .com pages link me to go for support.
Please, could someone just tell me how to fix the anchor links so that they go where I would like them to go?
Thank you.

Ah, instead of saying “href” you’ll need to say “name” on the HTML for those anchors. Can you give that a shot? You can also use this:
https://wordpress.com/support/splitting-content/page-jumps/#create-a-page-jumpThen we can work on the width issue you mentioned in the other thread.

Yay! Thank you! Using “name” instead of “href” did the trick. I knew that I was missing something.
Thank you!
