Calm down. As your account is 6 years old and if you are working on a WordPress.com site you should still be able to reach good old wp-admin and avoid the Block editor entirely.

Hello again, as I mentioned in your other thread, your forum posts are subject to our Best Practices & Community Standards https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/best-practices-community-standards/ as well as to the WordPressdotcom Terms of Service https://wordpress.com/tos/

As @mrsnlchauhan mentioned, if you have a specific process you use to write and post your content, why not share that process with us so we can see how to help you adapt?

If your site is hosted here on the WPcom platform, WPcom announced it is retiring the Classic Editor in the MySite dashboard for the entire WPcom platform. You can read more about the change in these blog posts

Say Hello to the WordPress Block Editor

The Classic Editing Experience is Moving, Not Leaving

Your choices now are the Classic Block in the MySite Block Editor or if you prefer not to use the Classic Block there, the original WP Classic Editor is available via the WP Admin dashboard of your site at theedgeof.wordpress.com./wp-admin/post-new.php

However, the Block Editor is easier to use than most people believe and has been greatly improved over the last couple of years. If your sites have already been switched to the Block Editor at MySite, you can try it out in a draft post and there’s a tutorial to get you started at https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/

Post back here if you have any other questions.

    @mrsnlchauhan
thanks for your efforts here, but please tag any thread such as this and the OP’s other thread for Staff attention. Thanks again.

    Hi @mrsnlchauhan,

Just read your another duplicate thread from where I got to know about your issue as below:

I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!! It’s S–IT!! YOU RUINED SOMETHING GOOD AND MADE MY LIFE A LIVING HELL!!!!!!!!!!![redacted by mod]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There used to be a way to switch back to the classic editor until a few months ago, however, I can seem to find that option anymore.

This post has been tagged for WordPress.com staff’s attention.

Rest assured, help will be coming here soon. Please do not create duplicate threads.

    Best,
    Sunil Chauhan

I was unable to switch to the Classic mode, much as I wanted to, and working through Admin is not the same. I am not talking about my personal website, which I don’t use. I’m talking about the MAB I belong to.

I have sent an email to the Help Desk. I will work with them. You can delete my posts here.

  • Hi folks, I’ve merged the threads.

Here’s how to use the classic editor if needed:

I apologize for my language, it was born out of hours of frustration. I know about using the classic link through Admin, but that isn’t the same as genuine Classic. Things have changed that can’t be returned to the old technique.

I know about using the classic link through Admin, but that isn’t the same as genuine Classic.

I’m sorry to disappoint you but wp-admin is the genuine classic and that is what you would use with the classic plugin and the .org software. The editor that has been removed was the javascript based Calypso/My SItes editor introduced a mere 4 years ago, for much of its life was missing many features found in wp-admin and is now superseded by the Block editor.

  • It’s true. Believe it or not, the Calypso Editor was every bit as hated by some.

But we are working hard to make the Block Editor better, so if there’s something that really bugs you and you can let us know specifically what that is and how it gets in your way, we can pass that feedback along.

For example, one of my favorite bloggers complained recently about not being able to select multiple paragraph blocks at once to change their formatting and what not. I went to go file a request about that, and it turned out that feature was already coming in the latest release, because folks requested it.

So, if there’s something missing in your workflow, just let us know. :)

I’m sorry to disappoint you but wp-admin is the genuine classic.

Here’s one example of how the above statement is incorrect. Aside from the setup of the page looking completely different, scheduling of posts is in military time, which was not the case with using Classic outside of Admin.

Per: the problems with this new format, images are smaller now when posted in the OG gallery format. When I tried to add a gallery image within the body of a post, it wouldn’t let me. Even though my cursor was on the place where I needed to add the photos, I was shot down to the bottom of the page. I finally gave up. The preview looks nothing like the draft. And today, when I had to change one word in a post per someone’s request – literally ONE word – the entire post devolved, with all the images gone, replaced by: “this block contains unexpected or invalid content,” on the left, and a plus sign with “attempt” block recovery on the right. Guess what didn’t work? That’s right, the recovery. The content was totally fine in the scheduled post. Changing one single word ruined the entire thing. So… now what? How am I supposed to fix the post if it won’t recover what I did?

  • There were three editors until recently:

    Classic Editor
    Calypso Editor
    Block Editor

(We’ve also had other editors over the years, but those are the main three.)

Calypso is the one you seem to have liked, but we’re not offering that one anymore. And you are right, all three did have slightly different date pickers for scheduled posts.

Guess what didn’t work? That’s right, the recovery.

Ok. Did you try editing the code for the post, or were you editing visually?

Also, can you look at the post revisions and see if the older version is still there?
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/page-post-revisions/

When I tried to add a gallery image within the body of a post, it wouldn’t let me. Even though my cursor was on the place where I needed to add the photos, I was shot down to the bottom of the page.

Can you clarify what you mean by OG gallery?

And, how did you go about trying to add an image — double clicking for example? Thanks in advance for any details you can add. It’ll help us reproduce the issue.

  • Unknown's avatar

I finally got the blocks back. Why they suddenly disappeared is a mystery I leave for you to solve.

By “OG,” I mean original. If I create a post in Admin and add photos through “Gallery,” it doesn’t look remotely like it used to. Instead it’s a strip with thumbnail sized photos. So what I had to do today was fix the text in a post through Admin, then SWITCH to Block to add the photos so they actually showed up. Needless to say, this is seriously inconvenient. Previously, in whatever I was using, I could insert two photos next to each other and they’d be in the correct size in the correct place.

  • Got it. It’s been quite a while since I used Calypso galleries so I can’t quite remember how that was.

But if I click “add media” in the classic editor, and “Create Gallery” on the left, I can tap several images, click the button in the lower right, change the style, and so on. The view in the editor is ugly, but if I actually preview the page/post, it looks okay.

The block editor aims to make the edit view much more like the actual site.

I never used Calypso. Only Classic. But I’ve given up. It’s too complicated to explain my problem through a forum like this. Thank you for your time. You can delete this thread.
