and furthermore…

… it seems to me with all the discussion that took place in the Massive Changes thread, that WP might not be taking full advantage * cough * of one of their biggest resources — namely, their enormous user base, and the core and vocal subset of it that actually cares about the WP usability experience.

After reading all the comments in the thread, I concluded that most commentators:
    (a) dislike the dumbing- down of the WP interface (as well as the hokey tone that WP used to communicate with its users, such as this false cowboy-hooey vibe) and
    (b) deeply resent not being consulted a priori on UI changes. Clearly process changes need to be implemented at WP by their new #2, whoever that turns out to be (hopefully a software exec not from Yahoo, and also someone who is only really interested in becomeing a VC one day!)

I would like to add a third aspect to this. As every custom CSS user knows, there are many areas in which WP is lagging behind the latest features of HTML5 and CSS3. With this in mind, I wonder if WP would consider putting up a tech discussion page (minus all the loopy tone that it typically uses to communicate with its user base) that clearly identifies imposed limitations, the technical rationale for this (spare us the old “for security reasons” standby please), and future CSS/HTML upgrades to its run-time interpreter.

What I am suggesting is that not only should there be 2 way communication with its user base at the UI level, but the same should also apply with respect to its runtime internals.

This would be inline with WP’s professed admiration for the Open Source model, and would no doubt make for a better, more technically sophisticated experience for those who wish to take advantage of the possibilities afforded by a constantly evolving set of programming and markup technologies.

If such a place already exists, I would love to have someone post the link. Otherwise, perhaps WP could add this to the bucket list.

Meanwhile I will scour Ryan Boren’s HP for hints at the galaxies to come.

I shall now silently yodel my thanks to WP for considering this request.
