Thanks but…not quite!
I want to move a widget that I have ‘made’ as opposed to a provided widget. Do I have to remove it and then re-do it for the other sidebar, or is there a way to simply move iot over? Don’t know if this makes sense! -
Ah I see – you mean a text widget. Copy content, remove widget, save changes, switch to other sidebar, add text widget, paste content, save changes…

Yes you can copy the html code of a text widget.
appearance > widgets > edit (text widget) > select all, copy
If you are not sure that this works, don’t delete the widget. Change sidebars, add a new text widget, edit to paste the code. Remember to click “done” and then to save changes. When you see your new text widget, go back and delete the one you no longer need.

If you’re using IE7 it probably will not let you copy the text in the text widget. I think IE8 will and I know Firefox will.

You’re welcome. You should upgrade anyway and/or add Firefox. It’s always good to have 2 or more browsers to check how your site looks in them. And they all have their own little quirks.

I understand, but how much worse can a non-functioning function be? Keep IE7, download Firefox and use it for this task. It looks and feels like IE6 (which I hate) but I’ve gotten used to it and prefer it now. It’s not the memory hog IE is either.

One thing I’ll add is that in an email from Matt (Automattic) he said that the whole widgets administration was scheduled for a complete makeover and would be much easier to use. When will it happen? I don’t know, but I’m hoping soon.
