Android Worpress App didn’t sync from PC
-
I started a post as an offline draft on my tablet using the app. I then added more content to the same post (including media) using my pc (online). When I turned on the data on my tablet and accessed the WordPress app, instead of the app being updated by the latest content from the website, the website was updated from the draft of the tablet, which was older and didn’t have all the content. I’ve gone into History and looked under Revisions, but the final work I did isn’t there. Result: I lost a good day’s work… How can I get it back and how do I make sure this doesn’t happen again? Thanks!

Hi –
Thanks for getting in touch. What is the title of the post that you were working on? I’m happy to take a look and see if I can find the correct revision.
Can you also check which version of the app you are using? And on what device?
Thanks!

That post is saved as a draft and has not been published yet. The draft was most recently saved on Jun 22, 2018 @ 23:29 and the last revision before that is from June 30, 2018 @ 23:47:32 (just about a month ago).
Click on My Sites – Posts – All Together Now! – Edit and from here you can publish it live.
You should not have synching issues like this between the app and your computer. I use my app and computer all the time when updating my blog.
One suggestion I have is to try and reinstall the app, and also make sure that you’re on the most current version.
If the issue happens again I’d like to know about it. The more examples we have the better we can track down any possible issues.

Hi, yes, it was only ever a draft – I’d not finished it yet. It seems that you’ve also found the same versions that I did so it looks like the massive updates of a couple of days ago are gone… very sad – it took me ages.
I might do a dummy post and try the app again and see what happens (after I reinstall it). I only installed the app a little while ago so I’d say it’s the latest one but, if I download it again, it should definitely be the latest… I think!
Thanks for trying.

I just wanted to let you know the results. It seems to have been my error in the usage of the app that resulted in losing my latest work. I thought the “Update” button would update the latest information regardless of whether it was done on the app or on the PC, however it seems this is not the case: “Update” will update the offline version on the tablet and, if pressed once online, it will update the PC with whatever’s on the tablet, even if it’s older.
When I added material on the PC site, I turned on the wifi on the tablet and waited for a while until it automatically uploaded to the latest website information. However, this can take a bit of time and often tells me that “an error has occurred …”. It does, however, eventually seem to sync.
One question: if I add things on the app, turn on wifi, should it update automatically on the pc, withough pressing “update”?
I’ve learnt a valuable lesson!

Hi there,
Sorry to hear that you lost your post, but glad you got to the bottom of it. As you mentioned, “update” will always override the changes made on the PC.
if I add things on the app, turn on wifi, should it update automatically on the pc, withough pressing “update”?
Yes, after making your changes from the app click the back button (without clicking “update”) you’ll see a blue bar under the post and a message at the bottom indicating that the post is updating across our servers.
When the bar disappears a message will show at the bottom that the post has been saved and give you the option to publish the post.
Here are some screenshots showing the above:

Hello,
Thanks very much for the instructions.
I was thinking: is it possible to put an instruction on the app regarding the “update” function? Perhaps I’m the only one who’s had this problem but I interpreted it like the “sync” function of some other apps, which tend to sync the latest information regardless of where there were made (like Outlook/Hotmail). It might be helpful…
I just want to say that I’ve been very pleased with the support I’ve been given – it’s been prompt and useful. Thank you all.
