ANew Website
-
I already have a domain and a website hosted at a different company. I’d like to build a new website and transfer my domain and hosting to wordpress. Would it be better to sign up and build the new website at WordPress and then point the domain to WordPress or to point it first and then build the website?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Good Morning –
My suggestion is to build your site on the free .wordpress.com address that you’ve already registered:
https://bayhilladvisors.wordpress.com/Once you complete the site you can then add WordPress.com Personal Plan to your account. You’ll need to upgrade your plan in order to map your domain here.
Lastly, follow this guide to map your current domain to WordPress.com.
Once the name servers are updated your domain will show your WordPress.com site.
We aren’t able to accept domain transfers, so you’ll need to keep your domain with your current registrar. Each year, you’ll renew your domain registration with them AND the domain mapping/plan upgrade with us. Both of these are going to be required for your site to continue working.
Let me know if you have any questions or run into trouble.

I understand wordpress.com won’t domain register the site I own. I must point it to wordpress and leave the domain where it is. What about email addresses? We have a company website with about 10 email addresses. Could we transfer those to wordpress? We also access those addresses through gmail. Could we continue that practice?
You can add a current Gmail account through G Suite. Here are those instructions.
All of our custom email options are outlined in this guide. -
Thank you Liz. I came to the same conclusion studying the contents. Considering the costs of G Suite (3-5 users) emails, domain registration and WordPress premium account (we would go for more than just the Personal Account) I think it may be more economical and straightforward to go with a hosting company like 1&1 or bluehost. What do you think?

The self hosted version of WordPress is more hands on. You will be responsible for site updates, and fixes. I also suggest reading through the Getting Started links on the left of the WordPress.org support page: https://wordpress.org/support/
Our preferred hosts are noted at https://get.wp.com/ . This guide may help you decide which version of WordPress is best for your site.
