Angry that my post just disappeared!
-
I was just writing a new blog post. I titled it. Finished typing it and added photos. I was linking a photo to a link when all of a sudden the page just reloaded and went to a blank page. No autosave version, no draft, nothing! I am so upset and there seems to be nothing I can do. Why have so many things changed on wordpress? I am really unhappy with all of the changes but most importantly the fact that I could lose an entire blog post and now it is just gone.
Why didn’t it autosave as I was working on it? I guess from now on I will have to hit save every 30 seconds to make sure that all that I write down doesn’t just vanish. So sad right now.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Have you enabled Revisions? If so, they should be visible on the Edit page, just under the Write box.
Does the post appear in your Posts page on the Dashboard? What’s the page title?
What browser and version are you using?
In the past, this has worked: Before clicking Publish, highlight ALL the contents of the write box, copy them, and while still highlighted, hit Publish. That way even if you lose it, it’s still copied. But something about being selected forces it to publish.

All of my posts normally autosave as I work on them even if not published yet. Any time I hit a button if it is going ot navigate away from the page and it may lose data it always used to say are you sure you want to do this, data may be lost. Even when I have navigated away and returned it will say a draft is available to view or a newer version is available to compare, etc. None of this happened. I was just about to publish it but as I was creating a hyperlink in the body of the text it just refreshed the page and lost it all. I don’t see any drafts, no revisions, nothing. Under Posts it lists all posts and all posts are published. Nothing in a draft form exists…

This is just something to think about going forward, but never trust saving things over the internet. The internet is far from perfect and it comes up to bite us when we least expect it.
You might think about doing your writing in a blog client such as Windows Live Writer (if you are on Windows) or Ecto if you are on Mac. They save your stuff to your computer and then when you are ready to publish, it will publish directly from the blog client. WLW is a free download and Ecto won’t break the bank at $20 and they have a trial version that you can play with before buying.
Alternately, and this is a little bit of a pain, on long post, or posts that I’ve spent a lot of time on, I will switch to the HTML tab, do a select all and then copy everything to the clipboard before clicking save or publish. That way if the internet bites you, you can quickly paste it into a plain text files and then get a post back up and going and paste the content back in.
