Animated gif appears as file name hyperlink, not an image

I’m trying to add an animated .gif file to my post. The image shows up – animated and everything – in the edit post screen, but when I click preview or load the post’s URL in my browser, there is a hyperlink to the image file instead of the image itself showing up where it’s supposed to.

In other words, instead of a moving .gif of a gremlin gliding away being displayed on the page, the page instead displays the word “gremlinglide” (the file name) and when you click that word, the browser redirects you to the image file itself, which animates and works fine.

I already made sure the image isn’t being resized in any way that I can see. It has been uploaded in its original size. I tried messing with the alternative text and Link URL options, but nothing seems to work. I’ve also seen that I’m supposed to check whether the image is in RGB color mode, but I don’t know how to do that.

Here is the link to the page:

The direct link to the .gif:

    And this is the HTML:
    <p style=”text-align: center;”><img class=”aligncenter size-full wp-image-195″ alt=”gremlinglide” src=”http://vaultofvarg.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/gremlinglide.gif” width=”350″ height=”245″ /></p>

Help me get this working, please.

Oh yeah, and I’m using the Zoren theme.

That is, was using Zoren. I changed the theme, still no change – you’ve got to click the link to see the .gif.

I figured this out on my own. I used a website to change the size of the gif before posting it to my blog, and for some reason that messed with it. I redid the resizing using GIMP and now it works fine.

I was having the same problem but still have yet to resolve it. How did you fix it?

I am uploading the .gif from my computer and inserting it at full size, so I’m not changing the size or anything.

What is also strange, is that on another blog I write for also on wordpress, the .gif loads fine, but then using that same exact .gif on my blog, the animation doesn’t load when I preview my post.

Ok well this is kind of strange. So I just went back into my post in the “edit” section, moved my cursor over the.gif that wasn’t working, and then clicked on the corner of the image to stretch it out (though it snapped back into place after I let go of the mouse), and now the .gif works fine.

It’s like wordpress slightly altered the size of the .gif even though I had selected the option to insert it at full size.

    Hi there,
    1. You cannot expect any theme to display any image that exceeds the maximum displayed image width without squishing it or chopping of one side.
    2. Provided the .gif image is pre-sized to the exact required dimensions for the header or the maximum displayed image width for posts or pages prior to uploading it it will operate correctly. If you crop it after uploading the image then the animation will be gone and you will have an ugly black box.
