Animated Gifs don't work
-
I’m having trouble with animated gifs.
They work just fine in the ‘edit post’ section, but when published it’s simply an image. I’ve tried uploading the image multiple times, cutting and pasting.
I’ve also tried other suggestions like click on image + ‘mountain’ +advanced+ no size etc but nothing seems to work.
Any ideas?

Animated gifs don’t work if resized. They must be created in the pixel dimensions you want on the post, and inserted in real size.
-
Thanks Justpi, tried it real size, re-sized, all of that :(
The gif is still animated in ‘edit post’ but is a regular image when published.
I’ve never had any problems before with them, so this is a new thing.
Any other ideas? -
How big is the gif as originally uploaded? If it is automatically shrunk by the theme even one pixel, that’s the problem.
Give us a direct link to the gif and to the post containing the gif.

The animated gifs that work in your previous posts haven’t been downsized. The animated gif in your Sep.15 post is 649px wide but you inserted it at 290px. Repeating: animated gifs lose the animation when downsized; if you want a 290px wide animated gif on the post, you must create it as a 290px wide image and select the Full Size option when inserting it.
-
Thanks, like I mentioned before, I’ve tried posting the image full size, the reason it was 290px when you checked my post is because I made it smaller as it’s not doing what I’d like it to.
I’ve posted it full size now, and it still doesn’t work.
Any other ideas? -

Here’s the post:

Here’s the gif:

I’d appreciate any help :) -
is not a correct URL.
http://iwanttobeapinup.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/http___makeagif-com_media_9-15-2012_ywzego3.gif?w=610&h=939 is the full URL of the GIF in the post.
The URL you need to make it animate is http://iwanttobeapinup.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/http___makeagif-com_media_9-15-2012_ywzego3.gif so just make that change in the TEXT editor and it should work.

Actually it won’t work. Looking at the attributes of the image it says:
649px × 1,000px (scaled to 440px × 678px)
I don’t think your site will hold a 649 pixel image with room for the caption frame. Just use a gif resizing site or utility to shrink it.

You’re welcome. I have a daily column on Gifs and I cannot begin to tell you how tired I am of their fiddliness.

@agzym: Like I mentioned from the start, animated gifs don’t work when downsized. You kept missing the point because you think that the “Full Size” option means real size, but that’s not the case. Full size means actual size of the original if the original is equal or narrower than the main column of the theme you’re using; if the original is wider, the full size option downsizes it to fit. As raincoaster suggested, a 649px wide image can’t fit in the theme you’re using (because its main column is 610px wide), so the image got downsized, so no animation.
-
Don’ know, I’m sure you’re right. Whatever raincoster suggested, it worked by simply changing text editor without having to resize. So actually it seems a 649px image did fit and works in the main column which is 610 px wide.
Seems these animated gifs are a mystery to us all :)
Anyway, thank you for your help! -
You’re welcome.
But sorry, animated gifs aren’t “a mystery to us all”! What you did was change the numbers in the Text editor to force the theme display the 649px wide original without downsizing it. The result is that you get animation, of course, but the rightmost part of the image is cut off (not a big problem in this case, since it’s just a white background).
For the future, just keep in mind that (as long as you’re using Liquorice) the gifs you create should be narrower than 610px.
