  Hi team, how are you?

  I’m writing because I have a specific question about using a site icon (favicon).
  I’m building my page and I’d like to use an anime-style illustration of a “cat girl” stretching next to some kittens. The pose is literally the same as any cat when it stretches, and the kittens next to her make the context very clear. There is no nudity, no violence, nothing explicit: it’s more of a cute and everyday image.

  I know the policy says the site icon must be “appropriate for all audiences.” That’s exactly why I want to explain my point, because I believe this image does fit that category. Here’s my reasoning:

  1. Global statistics about cats and dogs

  • Between 1.8 and 2.3 billion people (≈25–30% of humanity) have had a cat at some point in their life.
  • Currently, 20–25% of the world’s population has a dog, and if we include those who had one before, it’s ≈35–40% (≈3 billion).
  • The difference between people who had dogs and cats is only about 10%.
  • In big cities like Tokyo, Paris, New York, or Buenos Aires, the trend of having cats increases due to apartment living and smaller spaces. This shows that, culturally, the vast majority of people worldwide have seen how a cat stretches. It’s a universal, recognizable, and natural gesture.

  1. Interpretation of the image

  • The pose in the illustration is a feline stretch, not something sexual.
  • The kittens next to her make the context obvious.
  • A child seeing the image would interpret it as a cat gesture, nothing else. They might even imitate it playfully, as kids often do with pets.
  • There is no nudity, gore, or anything inappropriate for minors.

  1. About the “appropriate for all audiences” policy

  • I understand the rule is meant to avoid problems, but if we analyze it carefully, it asks for something appropriate for the majority, not based on one isolated opinion.
  • If 99 out of 100 people see it as cute and only 1 misinterprets it, wouldn’t it make more sense to go with the majority?
  • In fact, if the image were only kittens, nobody would object. The “issue” only appears because it’s a cat-girl, which feels a bit unfair and limiting for creativity and site personalization.

  For all these reasons, I believe the image is perfectly suitable to be used as a site icon. It’s not +18, not explicit, and culturally obvious to millions of people.

  What I’d like is to confirm directly with you if I can use it as a favicon without problems, or if you prefer the icon to be something more neutral. I’d rather check with a real person before assuming an algorithm might flag it incorrectly.

  Les escribo porque tengo una duda puntual sobre el uso de un icono de sitio (favicon).
  Estoy armando mi página y me gustaría usar una ilustración estilo anime de una “chica gato” que aparece estirándose junto a unos gatitos. La pose es literalmente la misma que hace cualquier gato cuando se despereza, y los gatitos al lado refuerzan ese contexto. No hay desnudez, ni violencia, ni nada explícito: es más bien una imagen tierna y cotidiana.

  Sé que la política dice que el icono del sitio debe ser “apto para todo público”. Y justamente por eso quiero plantear mi punto, porque creo que esta imagen sí entra en esa categoría. Les comparto mi razonamiento:

  1. Estadísticas globales sobre gatos y perros

  • Entre 1,8 y 2,3 mil millones de personas (≈25–30 % de la humanidad) han tenido un gato en algún momento de su vida.
  • Actualmente, 20–25 % de la población mundial tiene un perro, y si sumamos los que tuvieron antes, serían ≈35–40 % (≈3 mil millones).
  • La diferencia entre quienes tuvieron perros y gatos es de apenas un 10 %.
  • En grandes ciudades como Tokio, París, Nueva York o Buenos Aires, la tendencia a tener gatos aumenta por la vida en departamentos. Con esto quiero decir que, culturalmente, la gran mayoría de la gente en el mundo ha visto cómo se estira un gato. Es un gesto universal, reconocible y natural.

  1. Interpretación de la imagen

  • La pose de la ilustración es un estiramiento felino, no algo sexual.
  • Los gatitos al lado dejan claro el contexto.
  • Un niño que vea la imagen lo interpretaría como un gesto de gato, no como otra cosa. Incluso podría imitarlo jugando, como hacen muchos chicos con sus mascotas.
  • No hay desnudez, gore, ni nada que pueda considerarse inapropiado para menores.

  1. Sobre la política de “apto para todo público”

  • Entiendo que la regla busca evitar problemas, pero si la analizamos bien, lo que pide es que sea apto para la gran mayoría, no que dependa de la opinión aislada de una sola persona.
  • Si de 100 personas, 99 lo ven como tierno y solo 1 lo interpreta mal, ¿no tendría más sentido darle peso a la mayoría?
  • De hecho, si la imagen fueran solo gatitos, nadie pondría objeciones. El “problema” aparece solo porque es una chica-gato, lo cual me parece un poco injusto y hasta limitante para la creatividad y personalización de los sitios web.

  Por todo esto, yo pienso que la imagen es perfectamente apta para usarse como icono del sitio. No es +18, no es explícita, y culturalmente es obvia para millones de personas.

  Lo que me gustaría es confirmar con ustedes directamente si puedo usarla como favicon sin problemas, o si prefieren que el icono sea algo más neutral. Prefiero consultarlo con una persona del equipo antes de asumir que un algoritmo podría marcarlo como inapropiado.
